Portugal playmaker dismisses move to White Hart Lane

Joao Moutinho has ended speculation over his potential transfer to Tottenham Hotspur by stating his loyalties lie with F.C. Porto.

The Portuguese midfielder had been linked with a move to White Hart Lane in the summer, however it now appears chances of resurrecting the deal in January and bringing Moutinho to the Premier League are unlikely.

Tottenham had targeted the Portuguese international throughout the summer as a replacement for midfield playmaker Luka Modric.

The club put in a record bid of £20million plus future incentives on transfer deadline day in an attempt to reunite Moutinho with his former boss Andre-Villas Boas, however the move broke down during contract negotiations.

“I’ve made the decision to stay with Porto,” said Joao Moutinho yesterday.

“We believe in the value and quality we have here.”

Interest in the 26-year-old still remains high, and he has been linked with moves to Zenit St. Petersburg and Barcelona.

Despite the rumours, the midfielder seems keen to concentrate on football, and is in action tonight in the Champions League.

“I’m happy and what I want most is to win against PSG,” he added.
