He’s lethal: Villa fans react to update on Maupay future

[ad_pod ]

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are preparing to offer Brentford £15m plus a player for French forward Neal Maupay.

The 22-year-old struck 28 goals for the Bees in all competitions last season.

According to Football Insider, Villa have already had a bid rejected for the striker but are preparing to return with a fresh proposal.

The newly-promoted club have already broken their transfer record to sign Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge.

However, Villa’s summer business is said to be far from complete with the window still open for a relatively long time.

And there is no question that securing the services of Maupay would send out a serious message ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Villa fans have been on social media offering their views on the latest speculation surrounding the Brentford forward, who has previously been capped at Under-21 level by France.

Pogba’s latest Instagram snap draws all sorts of praise from MLS

[ad_pod ]

Paul Pogba is once again wreaking havoc on social media. This coveted Manchester United superstar has posted a snap on

/BzDwmFuFObq/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram in which he dances with both of his brothers, Florentin and Mathias.

But the interesting thing was that all of them were wearing Atlanta United jerseys. This is, of course, no coincidence because the club signed Florentin back in February and it seems that he finally got Paul to wear the kit and show it on social media.

Some fans might have mixed feelings about this since Pogba’s future at the club is still pretty much unclear and he could very well be heading through the exit door soon.

Still, if someone was excited about the Frenchman wearing an Atlanta kit, then it was the MLS outfit themselves. They let Pogba know that this particular dance is his best one yet.

The official account of the MLS also responded but just posted some emojis, hinting that they certainly found the Instagram post intriguing.

Manchester United: Junior Firpo would give Luke Shaw something to think about

Manchester United are chasing Real Betis full-back Junior Firpo, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

The £22.5million-rated (per Transfermarkt) 22-year-old is also reportedly drawing interest from some of the top sides in Europe, including Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid, though United should make his signing a priority.

Manchester United are clearly in need of a defensive overhaul. The recently completed season saw them concede 54 goals in 38 Premier League games; the tenth weakest record in the competition, which includes just two home clean sheets.

As it stands, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s back line currently consists of Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelöf, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Diogo Dalot, Matteo Darmian and the recently returned Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe.

It’s a line-up that, with all due respect to the current players, has seen pundits such as Lee Dixon call for reinforcement when talking to Premier League Today via the Daily Star back in March.

At the time of writing, a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka draws ever closer with the Crystal Palace man pictured in a United shirt as the club aim to strengthen the right-hand side of the defence. And now it seems fans might have something else to look forward to, with Ed Woodward and company keen on the reinforcing the left-hand side of the pitch (if the rumours are true).

Firpo has been likened to full-back legend Roberto Carlos by the good people over at La Liga analysis. Indeed, according to WhoScored, he produced on average 1.6 tackles, 1 interception and 1.4 clearances while current starter Luke Shaw managed 1.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 2.6 clearances, respectively. In attack, the Spanish under-21 international provided three goals and five assists while Shaw returned one goal and five assists.

While not a huge amount of difference based off of those statistics, Firpo does appear to be making a name for himself. Aside from the Marca links, ESPN reported in March that the Spanish U21 ace was on Real Madrid’s radar and the previously mentioned La Liga analysis do report his defensive contributions were higher than that of big names such as Jordi Alba and Marcelo.

United’s current starter, whose only real competition appears to be an ageing Ashley Young, showed that he’s capable of making errors last season; his latest coming against an already-relegated Huddersfield Town, which left sections of the support fuming online, as you can see in this article by the Daily Express.

Firpo, then, could potentially give Solskjaer at least another option on the left-flank if he were to join.

Manchester United fans, would you like to see Firpo challenge Shaw for the starting spot?

Marouane Fellaini’s latest Instagram snap is slightly bizarre

[ad_pod ]

It’s been seven months now Marouane Fellaini departed Manchester United for the Chinese Superleague and Shandong Luneng Taishan.

It’s been a fairly decent half-season for the big man too, as he managed 11 league appearances with a return of three goals and one assist.

Now though the Belgian is still very much on holiday, if his fashionable images on social media are anything to go by. Fellaini posted an

/Bzn5ZDdnp-0/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snap in a rather artsy setting, but in the end, it attracted mixed reactions from the crowd.

Some obviously liked the image, as Adnan Januzaj, a former teammate at Old Trafford, simply responded with a couple of emojis, both admiring the snap and seemingly laughing at it.

Andy van der Meijde, the former Dutch winger and Everton player, was all about the laughs as he rinsed Fellaini, asking him if he was in jail due to the confined space the 6 ft 4 in beast had seemingly squeezed himself into for the snap.

Celtic’s Kieran Tierney situation must be resolved quickly, says Stiliyan Petrov

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Former Celtic star Stiliyan Petrov has called for Kieran Tierney’s transfer situation to be resolved as soon as possible, as reported by The Sunday Post.

What’s he said?

Tierney has been the subject of heavy transfer interest from Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners having bids rejected in June, before offering £25m for the player over the weekend.

It looks to be a hugely important transfer window for the 22-year-old and for the Hoops, with big decisions having to be made about the future.

Petrov understands that’s a natural part of a player’s career, having left Celtic for the English Premier League in 2006, but hopes that whatever happens it’s not a saga that continues for much longer.

Celtic fans aren’t happy about Arsenal’s bid for one of their key players…

As quoted by The Sunday Post, the 40-year-old said:

“There comes a point in the careers of footballers that they weigh things up and make important decisions.

“Kieran Tierney may be in that position in this transfer window.

“If he goes, then the club will get excellent money for him. If he stays, then they are holding on to a quality footballer.

“But these are the kind of matters that you want resolved as soon as possible. It’s important to know where you stand and what needs to be done.”

What should Celtic’s next move be?

Petrov is right with his assertion that this Tierney situation needs to come to a head sooner rather than later.

If he does leave for the reported £25m, not only will Celtic have plenty of extra cash to play with in the rest of the transfer window, they’ll also need a new left-back.

Boli Bolingoli arrived recently from Rapid Vienna to play in the position, but beyond winger Jonny Hayes there is no other support at left-back.

Celtic now need to act decisively and find out what Tierney’s intentions are quickly.

If he does want a big move to Premier League then it’s in everyone’s best interests for the deal to be done as soon as possible considering Arsenal are said to have matched the club’s valuation of the left-back.

The pieces seem to be in place for the deal to be done, it’s now all about what the Scotland international wants to do.

Spurs fans still smarting over Lucas Moura decision

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans remain upset that forward Lucas Moura did not start the Champions League final.

The former PSG forward has returned to pre-season training ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Spurs drew the curtain down on last season with their very first Champions League final, as they lost 2-0 to Liverpool in Madrid.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men qualified for the showpiece after a scarcely believable comeback against Ajax in Amsterdam in the semi-final; they fell 2-0 behind but a second-half hat-trick from Lucas gave Tottenham a phenomenal victory.

And yet, Lucas was dropped for the final, with England captain Harry Kane restored to the starting XI after overcoming an ankle injury.

Should Spurs sell Kieran Trippier? Check out the for and against in the video below…

The call was clearly a controversial one and Spurs went on to lose without truly testing Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

And fans remain convinced that the 26-year-old should have been in the starting XI in Spain.

Everton’s Tom Davies shares his bottle cap challenge on Instagram

[ad_pod ]

The bottle cap challenge is the Internet’s latest craze that has people all over the world participating.

The idea is to knock the bottle cap off the bottle in a unique and impressive way. Whether it’s with your legs, hands or even with a football, it doesn’t really matter as long as it’s entertaining in some way, shape or form.

Numerous stars have already participated in this new trend and the latest one to join them was Everton’s Tom Davies.

The 21-year-old midfielder managed to accomplish the task of getting the cap off with an impressive shot that just barely scratched the bottle top, getting the cap successfully out of the picture.

He quickly took to

/B0ET8LeBhhx/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to share his success.

Of course, this did not go unnoticed as his social media account was soon flooded with comments and people congratulating him for beating the challenge.

Some of his teammates were also there as well as other famous people sending their support.

But the question does remain: How many tries did it really take to do it?

Davies still hasn’t answered that one so we’ll simply have to wait and see.

Spurs made Kieran Trippier, he has no right to insult the club

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Kieran Trippier has insulted Tottenham Hotspur with his latest quotes.

The England international left Spurs earlier this summer to join Atletico Madrid in a deal worth around £20m.

The move came about after Trippier endured a difficult season at Spurs that was categorised by a number of errors, including a genuinely appalling own goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

And, following his transfer, he has opened up on his reasons for departing north London.

Having featured for the club in the pre-season International Champions Cup tournament, he said, per Sky Sports: “I think it was time for me to change and move on.

“I don’t necessarily mean that I needed to move on, but things happened behind the scenes at Tottenham, which I don’t really want to go into, but I needed to move on from that.”

Now, of course, nobody bar Trippier and his team-mates know what went on. It would be remiss to guess.

But to suggest that he simply had to get out of Spurs makes out that he was frightfully unhappy with the way he was treated at the club.

We should get things straight here.

Trippier was signed from Burnley for £3.5m. He was a back-up to Kyle Walker. When Walker left, he was promoted to the first-team and trusted by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Because of the faith placed in him, he was England’s starting right-back at the 2018 World Cup, scoring a world-class free-kick in the semi-final defeat to Croatia.

Even last season, when his form dipped and he became a liability at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, yet he stayed in the starting XI, earning himself a major move to an elite European club.

The last thing he should be doing at this stage is criticising the club.

They have helped him become the player he is today and helped shape him into Atletico Madrid’s big-money summer signing.

To turn around now and throw Spurs’ faith back in their face is an insult not just to the club but also to the fans who supported him throughout his tenure in the capital.

Leeds need to give Kalvin Phillips greater defensive responsibility to solve one big problem

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Rather bizarrely, Leeds will go into the new campaign without a replacement for Pontus Jansson.

The Swede left for a measly £5.5m earlier in the transfer window, joining Brentford after it was claimed he had problems with his attitude.

Ben White has arrived on loan from Brighton but despite Marcelo Bielsa being described as a big fan, it would be foolish to place faith in someone so young who has minimal experience at this level.

As a result, the Argentine must place more faith in one of his best performers from the previous season.

On the chalkboard

Leeds fans haven’t been shy in making their feelings felt on their defensive frailties in pre-season.

It seems to have been a huge issue for the Whites after they lost 4-0 to Manchester United with Gaetano Berardi next to Liam Cooper.

White, himself, made an error against Cagliari which makes things increasingly uncertain going into their opening match of the season.

Cooper, of course, was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year but who he lines up alongside on the opening weekend remains to be seen.

After Berardi was sent off in the playoffs he won’t feature on Sunday, but one man who needs to be given more responsibility in that area of the pitch is Kalvin Phillips.

The defensive midfielder was the subject of a £15m bid from Aston Villa towards the back end of last week and played 13 times at centre back last term.

Defensively he was exceptional throughout 2018/19, making 2.6 tackles per game whilst also winning 2.6 aerial duels on average each match.

When playing at the heart of defence, he lost just twice which proves Leeds can still perform when he’s trusted in that position.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

With options limited in that part of the pitch, there are far worse ideas than giving Phillips a consistent run at centre-back.

In July 2018, the 23-year-old told Leeds Live: “As long as I’m playing games I’m not really fussed where I play. Like I said, I can play anywhere in midfield, I can play centre-half so obviously it’s a good thing to have when you can be a utility player as well.”

And that can play into his hands providing he does stay at the club next season.

Phillips has proven himself to be an excellent utility player but it could be in defence where he shines in 2019/20.

Everton fans hail Yerry Mina following impressive performance

[ad_pod ]

Yerry Mina put in a strong performance as Everton’s back four kept a clean sheet in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Toffees could not find a goal in the English capital but Mina’s display at the back helped Marco Silva’s side produce a shut-out to claim a point.

According to WhoScored, Mina had a pass success rate of 93%, whilst he won three aerial duels and made two successful tackles during his 90 minutes on the field.

The Colombia international had a difficult first season at Goodison Park – making just 13 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside giants.

Silva named Mina in his first XI against Palace, though, and the 2018 arrival from Barcelona showed that he could be a big player for the club during the 2019-20 campaign.

The Everton fans were hugely impressed with what they saw from the 24-year-old. And many have taken to social media to hail the defender:
