Liverpool fans relive bad memories after seeing club’s social media post

Liverpool host Leicester City on Saturday as they look to continue their 100% start in the league, but a social media post has brought back bad memories from the same fixture last season.

The Foxes managed to grab a 1-1 draw on that occasion and it was part of a run of fixtures in which Jurgen Klopp’s drew three league games out of four – which ultimately cost them the Premier League title.

As a result, fans aren’t pleased that Liverpool’s official account has posted a clip from the game, even though it shows a great passing move which resulted in Sadio Mane finding the bottom corner.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are in good form too and subsequently find themselves in third place, so they certainly have the potential to upset Reds once more by taking valuable points off them.

The Anfield outfit will be hoping to put last season’s result firmly behind them and if they manage that they will go into the international break in a buoyant mood.

Here are some of the reactions from the Anfield faithful.

Rangers: Strength in depth amongst the most impressive traits of Steven Gerrard’s title challenge

Rangers completed a comfortable 5-0 win over Hamilton at Ibrox on Sunday and what was more impressive was that it was achieved with a host of first choice and international players sitting out as they hit the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The squad depth assembled by departed Director of Football, Mark Allen and Steven Gerrard has seen Rangers go into the international break top of the Scottish Premiership and qualify for the group stages of the Europa League in a run of form that has seen just two defeats from twenty-two games.

What is noticeable this season is that the Ibrox club has still been picking up points domestically whilst coping with the rigours of European football. Compared to this time last season, Rangers are seven points better off.

There is also the manner of the two defeats that the Gers have suffered this season, each time, against both Celtic and Young Boys respectively, they were victims of their own defensive mistakes. They weren’t out-played or out-classed in either of these games but coughed up gilt-edged opportunities through lapses of concentration. Another sign of improvement, Rangers appear to have their destiny in their own hands.

Sunday’s starting XI had a few notable absentees; Filip Helander, Nikola Katic, Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo, Andy King, Ryan Kent, Jordan Jones and Alfredo Morelos. Only one of these players isn’t a full international and he cost £7.5m.

As Gerrard alluded to at the weekend, they have managed to get these results and have players coming back to fitness. Rangers ran out of steam at several points last season, relying on Kyle Lafferty, Andy Halliday and Gareth McAuley to rotate the squad, few would argue they are of the same quality as Jermain Defoe, Glen Kamara and Filip Helander.

The competition for places and gentle rotation of the squad has been the key difference in improving on last year’s form. Fans accept that it won’t be the same starting XI every game and as long as the “back-ups” like Defoe, Greg Stewart and George Edmundson continue to produce performances like they did at the weekend then the groans when the team is announced an hour before kick-off will get quieter and quieter.

Barcelona could find their new Luis Suarez in Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Luis Suarez has been an excellent servant to the Blaugrana but with 32 years already on his back, Barcelona have to start thinking about his potential replacement. And AS claim they are keeping an eye on Lautaro Martinez for that very reason.

What’s the word, then?

It seems that the Catalan giants are finally thinking about bringing in a long-term replacement for their Uruguayan Pistolero.

Suarez has no doubt played a major role in Barcelona’s recent success and ever since he arrived from Liverpool, the now 32-year-old has been simply outstanding.

In the 255 games he played for the Blaugrana so far, he managed to score an incredible 183 goals and also assist further 96 in the process.

By all standards, those figures are rather sublime.

But there comes a time in everyone’s career when their prime years pass them by. For Suarez, this might already be happening despite this year’s tally of four goals in six La Liga games.

For that reason, targeting Martinez is a smart move.

A worthy successor

Martinez is only 22 years of age and yet, he’s already evidently catching the eye of some of the biggest football teams in the world.

And looking strictly at his numbers so far, it doesn’t really come as a surprise.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

In the nine games he’s played for Inter Milan across all competitions so far this season, the young Argentine has already scored three goals and netted one assist as well. Not to mention that one of those goals was actually against Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri ended up losing that game but that was quite an introduction for the forward in front of what could be his own crowd in the not so distant future.

But the best thing about him is that he is quite consistent as well – in the 44 games for Inter Milan as a whole, he scored 12 goals and assisted three and before that, for Racing Club, he scored 26 in 58 games.

By all standards, not really a bad tally at all.

But he is quite young and his ceiling seems to be high.

Now all he needs might be a small push to get to the next level, and then, who knows – maybe Barcelona really do come knocking.

Leeds United fans reminisce over Beckford and Becchio’s partnership

Leeds United will be vying for promotion from the Championship in the 2019/20 campaign, and a photo released of a former striking duo has got some fans speaking out regarding the potential impact that they could have in the current Leeds side.

Luciano Becchio and Jermaine Beckford, who spent a combined nine years at the club, scored 86 and 84 goals respectively whilst plying their trade at Elland Road.

The duo are clearly remembered fondly by some of the Whites’ fanbase, and given Leeds’ inconsistent start to the 2019/20 season, some fans have even stated that they would represent better options than the current strikers at the club.

Although the likes of Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah are highly promising players and have scored a combined eight league goals so far this season, it’s clear that some Leeds fans would love to see a return to the days of Becchio and Beckford up front for the club.

Liverpool fans stunned Kevin De Bruyne was not sent off vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool fans are stunned that Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne was not handed a red card after accidentally kicking Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate in the face at Selhurst Park.

Of course, Reds star Sadio Mane was sent off during a game against City back in 2017, after a clash with goalkeeper Ederson.

Chasing a loose ball, the Senegal international collided with the Brazilian, with his boot catching the stopper in the head.

Ederson was stretchered off and Mane was shown a straight red card.

On Saturday, however, De Bruyne attempted to control a bouncing ball and caught Kouyate in the face in a similar (though slightly less brutal) manner.

He was not shown a card, however, to the chagrin of Liverpool supporters, with City going on to win the game 2-0.

One insists that Mane is the only player to be punished for such a challenge, and others are convinced that De Bruyne should have been given his marching orders as well.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

West Ham fans praise Angelo Ogbonna’s start to the season

West Ham have hit a stumbling block recently but one player who continues to perform is Angelo Ogbonna, and fans are certainly impressed with his start to the season.

It hasn’t been all plain sailing for the Italian as he missed out on the Hammers’ opening day clash against Man City, but a 5-0 defeat and injury to Fabian Balbuena allowed him to come into the side, and he has made the most of his opportunity.

He has been an important presence in the heart of the defence with 1.6 tackles and 5.4 clearances per game, though despite his best efforts his side have only kept three clean sheets in the eight games he has played.

Despite that, it is a significant turnaround in his fortunes from last year, when he often found himsef out of the side – starting only 20 games – and when he did feature he occasionally faced criticism from supporters.

However, some fans seem to have been won over by his performances so far this term, even considering him their best player of the year, as seen in the following reactions.

Travelling Southampton fans commended on ‘great effort’ versus Man City

Despite recently watching their side lose 9-0 to Leicester City, a record-equalling scoreline, an impressive number of Southampton fans made the long trip north to witness the Saints face Manchester City at the Etihad on Tuesday evening.Fans invest a lot when they commit to away days. Extortionate travelling costs, mandatory amenities like a meal deal or pie and beer, time off work, emotional stress and sleepless nights are the prices we pay to loyally follow our teams around the country. So it’s always nice to see when we’re recognised for the sacrifices we make on a weekly basis – it’s just a bit of a shame it rarely ever comes from the clubs themselves. Covered travelling costs wouldn’t go amiss from time to time.Watch Southampton Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Saints fans who made the nine-hour round trip to Manchester yesterday, despite almost certain doom against the Premier League champions, deserve all the credit in the world. And while it might only be of small conciliation after witnessing their side suffer another defeat – this time by the far more acceptable scoreline of 3-1 – their efforts were noticed and duly appreciated by author, commentator and Manchester City fan Ian Cheeseman…

Aston Villa fans react to Jack Grealish failing fitness test

Lots of Aston Villa fans took to social media to share their thoughts on Jack Grealish failing his fitness test, after the Birmingham-based outfit announced that the midfielder would not be facing Liverpool on Saturday.

Grealish played no part in Dean Smith’s plans against Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing Reds, despite being at Villa Park, having been unable to pass a late fitness test on Saturday morning following a severe bleed in his calf.

Smith had hoped that adrenaline would carry Grealish over the line, but it was decided best to rest the 24-year-old after he took a whack in the closing stages of last week’s defeat at Manchester City.

Every Premier League club’s WORST player is named and shamed in the video below…

Grealish also sat out the midweek Carabao Cup clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers, which was the first game the Villa captain had missed across all competitions this season.

The attacking midfielder had scored two goals in his last three Premier League appearances, coming against Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as finding the back of the net in his EFL Cup outings against Crewe Alexander and the Seagulls.

Only Ahmed El Mohamady had created more key passes per ninety minutes than Grealish in the Premier League for Villa in the opening ten games of the season, as well, with the Egyptian averaging 2.7 to the 24-year-old’s 2.5.

Anwar El Ghazi was the man tasked with replacing Grealish, though, after the Dutchman returned to Smith’s starting line-up after scoring against Wolves in the week.

Here are some of the reactions shared when Villa announced that Grealish was not in Smith’s squad to face Liverpool on Saturday…

Barcelona’s Ilaix Moriba is a talent waiting to explode

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In The Pipeline series, which takes a look at some of the most promising young talent either linked with clubs or emerging from their academies…

At the moment, it seems that Barcelona are full of extremely talented 16 year old players.

By now, everyone is familiar with Ansu Fati and his remarkable rise in La Liga this season but what if we were to tell you that he is not the only 16-year-old in La Masia who’s destined for greatness?

Ilaix Moriba is another such talent who’s yet to be discovered by the general public but once he breaks out of his shell, things might be set into motion pretty quickly.

The young prodigy is at the very beginning of his career with the Blaugrana and has so far featured only for their younger levels at the U17, U18 and U19 squads after his promotion from Barca youth.

Just recently, Moriba signed a new contract with the Catalans that will keep him at the club until 2022, raising his release clause and annual paycheck in the process as well.

Needless to say, Barcelona knew what they were doing.

Even though there’s not too much data on the young prodigy out there, some of his best performances were definitely noticed by the footballing world.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

Moriba bagged an incredible hattrick in Barcelona U18 squad’s 5-0 bashing of Real Madrid in the young El Clasico, and regularly kept impressing with some breathtaking skills.

The thing about him is that he is both incredible on the ball but also well-built and capable of going toe to toe with some of the toughest players out there.

Recently, in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the youngster revealed that he was told he is similar to Paul Pogba of all players but that he admires the likes of Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta – idols who made him take up the role of a midfielder in the first place.

Of course, he is still at the very beginning of his career and there’s a lot to go before we can actually see him on the biggest stage in football.

But it seems that he’s already dreaming of playing alongside Lionel Messi and co.

According to the same interview with Mundo Deportivo, and if he continues impressing like that and developing properly, the sky could be the limit.

Between Fati and Moriba, Barcelona’s future looks more than just in safe hands.

Let’s wait and see if both young prodigies manage to continue the trend moving forward.

Man City fans react to Ederson injury news

Manchester City fans are not in the most confident mood for the vital clash against Liverpool after the recent news regarding Ederson.

The goalkeeper came off injured against Atalanta and has now been ruled out of the Anfield showdown by Pep Guardiola. The Brazilian will be a big miss, having been a crucial part of Guardiola’s system over for the past few seasons.

In that midweek Champions League clash, it was Claudio Bravo who replaced the former Benfica keeper, but even he is not in the best of form.

The Chile international was sent off within 35 minutes of entering the pitch, which forced Kyle Walker in goal for the closing stages.

As a result of Ederson’s injury, some City fans are not best pleased heading into Sunday.

Many fans have already conceded defeat to the Reds now, whilst some supporters would rather see Scott Carson step in than Bravo.

The injury to their number one has only added to an already packed physio room, as Ederson now joins five star names on Guardiola’s injury list.

Here’s how the fans have reacted to the absence of their number one goalkeeper this Sunday…
