Harry Redknapp predicts what will happen at West Ham this season

Slaven Bilic’s first season in charge of West Ham was nothing if not a success. Not only did the Hammers play the attractive – and above all, winning – football that signed off their old ground at Upton Park in style, but they also leapt to their highest Premier League finish since the days of Harry Redknapp.

Since then, things have changed at the club. The move to the new stadium has created division and teething problems; the players don’t seem to have performed on the pitch in well over a year, false dawns notwithstanding; and it’s becoming harder and harder to see exactly where the next win is going to come from.

That’s what cost Slaven Bilic his job. Beloved by the fans but seemingly less so by the players, the Croatian’s time was up.

If things have changed dramatically at the club in the last year and a half, just think how different they are now to the club that Harry Redknapp managed. And yet, something things stay constant – the fanbase and the fact that West Ham are one of the biggest football clubs in the country.

That’s moved the former Hammers boss to predict what will happen next this season: watch the video below to find out what he has to say….

Newcastle fans question decision to name Jacob Murphy as the POTM

Newcastle United announced via their official Twitter account on Thursday that winger Jacob Murphy had been named as the club’s Player of the Month for November, but Magpies fans were quick to question the decision.

The Tyneside outfit only took one point from the possible 12 available during the month as their slide down the Premier League table continued, but the month did see the 22-year-old get more first-team minutes following a struggle to get into the side earlier in the season.

The former Norwich City man had only played 90 top flight minutes across six appearances prior to November, but he made three starts and featured for 239 in the penultimate month of 2017, although he is still yet to score a goal or provide an assist.

Newcastle supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the big announcement, and while one said the decision was “interesting”, another simply said “are you deluded?”

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Nottingham Forest and Leeds are right to be targeting proven Championship finisher Britt Assombalonga

Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are interested in re-signing Middlesbrough winger Britt Assombalonga according to The Northern Echo.

What’s the story?

The 25-year-old striker joined Boro last summer from Nottingham Forest for £15million and the lethal finisher had a flying start to the season under Garry Monk but wasn’t favoured so much by new manager Tony Pulis.

He made 34 appearances over the course of the season, scoring 15 goals.

Now The Northern Echo are reporting that a number of clubs are interested in signing the Congolese international who is valued at £10.8million on Transfermarkt, including Birmingham City, Leeds United, Swansea City and Nottingham Forest.

A quality Championship player

Assombalonga has demonstrated that he can score goals at Championship level time and time again.

Although Boro would be reluctant to see him leave after only a year at the club, his relationship with Pulis appears strained and a sizeable fee could convince them to part with their striker.

With Leeds closing in on Matej Vydra and talks ongoing with Abel Hernandez, Leeds don’t really need Assombalonga as well, but with two of the three strikers linked they would have a devastating striking duo.

Nottingham Forest meanwhile are about to sign Lewis Grabban and again Assombalonga could form a lethal partnership with him.

Either way, the 25-year-old is a proven Championship star that would improve any team and if they have a chance to sign him they should snap him up.

Everton should go all out to land this £30m-rated World Cup midfielder this summer

Everton will be hoping to add some quality this summer as they look to have an improved campaign this time around.

Backed and led by new manager Marco Silva, the Toffees will be confident of improving on last term, and with a squad which already boasts plenty of talent following two windows of big spending, only a few additions will likely be needed to turn the club into real challengers.

Our landlord thinks a few players in key positions will be just the ticket at Goodison Park, and he’s been keeping a close eye on proceedings in the World Cup this summer.

One player who he thinks could do a superb job for the Toffees is current Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who has been involved in all the games this summer, despite not always being a starter.

However, Kovacic is a quality operator, and with his minutes on the pitch at Madrid often limited, he could well feel the need to move to a club where he will be the main man.

Everton are club where he would be just that, and a player of his calibre and pedigree would certainly be welcomed at Goodison.

Good in possession, a goal threat when he wants to be, and a player who is willing to fight for any cause, Kovacic – who is rated at £30m by Transfermarkt – would be a superb addition for Everton and would surely endear himself to fans with his style of play and ability.

Toffees fans, what do you thnk? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!

Leeds in talks with Kasimpasa over Diagne move

According to Turkish Football, Leeds United are in talks with Kasimpasa forward Mbaye Diagne over a move to Elland Road in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, and Derby County’s Matej Vydra has been strongly linked with a move to the club.

Talk of a deal for Vydra has gone cold, however, with Leeds said to be struggling to agree personal terms with the striker, who is also believed to be holding out for a Premier League move.

According to Turkish Football, Leeds are now in talks with Diagne over a move to Elland Road in this summer’s transfer window.

The 6ft 3in ace has also been linked with Hull City, Reading and Bournemouth as he prepares to leave Turkish football ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

However, Leeds are believed to be in a strong position as they look to sign a player who has a very impressive recent scoring record.

What are Diagne’s credentials?

The 26-year-old was actually signed by Juventus in 2013, but he never made a first-team appearance for the Italian champions before leaving in 2015.

The forward scored 15 league goals in 45 appearances for Chinese outfit Tianjin Teda between 2016 and 2017 before completing a move to Kasimpasa earlier this year.

Diagne managed 12 goals in 17 appearances for the Turkish outfit, and it is not a surprise that a number of clubs are being linked with his services.

The fact that the Senegalese has never played in England makes the deal a slight risk, but he could turn out to be an inspired signing for Leeds.

Indeed, a player with obvious pace and power, he could be just what the doctor ordered for Bielsa in this summer’s transfer window.

Man United Arnautovic swoop makes no sense given they have Rashford and Martial

West Ham United are willing to listen to offers for 6ft 4in talisman Marko Arnautovic, which has alerted the attention of Manchester United, according to TalkSport.

What’s the story, then?

TalkSport report that the Hammers’ huge summer spending spree means that the Austrian forward may need to be sold in order to balance the books.

They claim that Manuel Pellegrini’s willingness to sell has alerted Jose Mourinho, although he faces a transfer tussle with Champions League semi-finalists Roma for Arnautovic’s signature.

Arnautovic signed for West Ham for a then club-record fee last summer but the arrival of the Hammers’ new most expensive transfer Felipe Anderson has reportedly made him less integral than he was under David Moyes.

Rashford and Martial offer more long-term

Jose Mourinho’s continued interest in Arnautovic suggests once more that he wants more physicality in the ranks at Old Trafford.

However, the Austrian is a man who can play out on the left and through the middle and United already have a glut of those; Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

The latter duo – Rashford and Martial – are incredible long-term prospects and it would be a poor move from Mourinho to dump one, or both of them, in the short-term pursuit of power by bringing in Arnautovic.

Newcastle United fans divided as Ritchie set to stay at St James’ Park

For weeks now it was thought that Matt Ritchie was on his way out of Newcastle United and heading to Stoke City, but it seems that there has been a twist in the tale.

According to Chronicle Live football editor Mark Douglas, the winger is now set to stay due to Stoke’s pursuit of Tom Ince.

The reporter revealed the news via Twitter on Saturday evening.

If true, it would create a knock-on effect because Newcastle were looking at numerous candidates to replace Ritchie.

At the start of July, The Chronicle reported that the Magpies had reopened talks with Crystal Palace regarding a move for Andros Townsend.

The winger was part of the Newcastle fold two years ago, but he opted to leave the North-East outfit in 2016 when they suffered relegation to the Championship.

This latest news, though, suggests that if Ritchie stays then a move for Townsend will not be pursued.

Some Newcastle fans are pleased to hear that their man could be staying put, while others would have preferred the original plan to go ahead.

Everton fans want Joao Mario to join club

According to Calciomercato, Everton are still interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario in this summer’s transfer window.

Mario spent the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at West Ham United – scoring twice in 13 Premier League appearances for the Hammers.

The London club had the chance to sign the Portugal international on a permanent deal this summer, but refused to meet Inter’s asking price.

It is understood that a number of clubs want to loan Mario for the 2018-19 season, but Inter are holding out for a permanent sale, which may prove to be problematic due to their asking price.

Everton are once again bring linked with a move, and their supporters have been offering their views on the 5ft 10in ace on social media.

Mario divided opinion with the West Ham fans last season, but the Everton supporters would be pleased to see him make the move to Goodison Park this summer.

Besiktas interested in Papy Djilobodji – Sunderland fans will be delighted

Sunderland have brought in 11 new players this summer as the club looks to halt their relegation slide down the leagues.

Under Jack Ross and owner Stewart Donald, Sunderland have begun the season hoping to finally end the wave of negativity that has taken over the club in recent years.

Along with bringing in a fleet of new players, the club is also looking to shift out some of the players to not only clear up their wage bill but also to freshen up the squad as they embark on their League One campaign.

Lamine Kone has been sold to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, while youth academy product Joel Asoro has joined Swansea.

Apparently, Sunderland could be close to sanctioning another departure as according to Turkish newspaper Takvim (via Turkish Football), Besiktas will bid for defensive flop Papy Djilobodji.

The Breakdown

The Senegal international joined Sunderland in 2016 in a deal worth £8 million, but never really impressed at the club.

With two years left on his contract, and with the club looking to clear some of their top earners off the wage bill, selling him to Besiktas would be a great deal.

It seems manager Ross has already prepared for life without the former Chelsea man as he has brought in four new central defenders to help bolster the club at the back.

With Domagoj Vida attracting interest from multiple clubs, selling Djilobodji just seems right for all parties and, in truth, he won’t be missed by Sunderland fans.

What do you think about this deal Sunderland fans?

Forest fans on Twitter are buzzing the club didn’t sell Brereton on the cheap

According to the Nottingham Post, Blackburn Rovers failed with a £5m deadline day bid for Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton, and Forest fans on Twitter were pleased that a deal for the youngster never materialised.

The 19-year-old came through Stoke City’s academy before being released and was snapped up by Forest, where he has gone on to make 57 appearances for the first team in the past two seasons. For a striker, his tally of just nine goals and seven assists in that time has hardly set the City Ground alight but his talent is clear to see.

On the international stage, Brereton has netted five goals in 18 appearances for England’s U19 side and was involved in the European U19 Championship winning side last summer. He is now valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt but this will surely continue to rise.

Forest fans then were happy that the club didn’t offload the promising youngster on a permanent deal on deadline day. Check out the best reactions below.
