QPR fans delighted as Eze pens new contract

Earlier this week, Queens Park Rangers announced that Eberechi Eze had signed a new contract with the Championship club until the summer of 2021.

Eze, who has been handed the number 10 shirt for this season, has penned a two-year extension to his current deal.

The 20-year-old, who has previously been on the books of Arsenal, Fulham and Millwall, scored twice in 16 Championship appearances for the R’s last season.

The 5ft 8in midfielder also spent time on loan at Wycombe Wanderers in League Two last term, and managed five goals in 20 league appearances for the club.

Eze played the full 90 minutes of QPR’s Championship opener against Preston North End last weekend, meanwhile, and has been tipped to enjoy a big season.

The QPR fans called for their club to tie Eze to a new contract earlier this summer, and that has now occurred in what is a huge boost to the London outfit at this stage of the campaign.

QPR fans mixed over potential Rangel deal

Angel Rangel is believed to be on the verge of joining Queens Park Rangers.

Indeed, the 35-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving Swansea City at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Rangel joined Swansea in 2011, and made over 320 league appearances during his time with the Welsh outfit.

The experienced defender only featured on four occasions in the Premier League last term, however, and was released following the expiration of his contract.

It is understood that Rangel has no plans to retire, and QPR are said to be nearing a deal for the Spaniard which would see him remain in English football.

The QPR fans have been reacting to the speculation on social media, and it would be fair to say that they have mixed opinions on the potential deal for the 5ft 10in ace.

Indeed, whilst some would take Rangel on a short-term contract, there are those who are simply not interested in the deal.

Reed off: Matt Targett should seek to follow him out of Southampton

According to a recent report from The Daily Echo, Harrison Reed looks set to leave Southampton this month. The midfielder came up through the ranks at St Mary’s and has since gone on to appear 30 times for the Saints, although he spent last season on loan at Championship side Norwich City to suggest that he isn’t particularly high up in the midfield pecking order.

And reports suggest that the 23-year-old could be off this month, and with that seeming an increasingly likely possibility, fellow Saints teammate Matt Targett, valued at £6.3 million by Transfermarkt, should seek to follow Reed out of Southampton by the end of the month.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, 23-year-old Reed was shipped out on loan to Daniel Farke’s Norwich very early in the summer window last year to suggest that he wasn’t in former boss Mauricio Pellegrino’s plans for the Saints going forward, although the midfielder did reasonably well at Carrow Road in appearing 43 times for the Canaries, netting once and laying on four assists.

And while a new manager in Hughes could well have brought about a change in fortunes for the former England Under-21 international, the fact that he is willing to sanction his departure this month suggests that his immediate prospects at St Mary’s are very bleak indeed.

As are those of left back Targett, who was another to benefit from time on loan last season in helping Fulham win promotion to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old mustered just two league appearances for the Saints in the early phase of last season to underline his lowly position in the pecking order, eventually resulting in the Englishman earning a move to Slavisa Jokanovic’s Cottagers, where he certainly shone.

The left back featured in all 21 matches Fulham played following his arrival in January to underline just how integral he was to the London side in their pursuit of Premier League football, a goal Targett helped them to achieve as they beat Aston Villa in the play-off final.

And while he has likely returned to Southampton a better player for his experiences at Craven Cottage, he simply isn’t going to dispose Ryan Bertrand of the left back slot in Hughes’ side – and a season on the bench at St Mary’s isn’t going to help his development.

As such, while Targett appears to be the next in command were Bertrand to get injured or suspended, he needs first team football to continue developing into the excellent left back his potential suggests he could be – he did that last season at Fulham.

And with Reed seemingly off this month, Targett must seek to follow his teammate’s lead by leaving Southampton before the end of August.

Mark Hughes is wise to take cautious approach with Ings at Southampton

Southampton have not had the best of starts to the new Premier League campaign after drawing 0-0 with Burnley before losing 2-1 against Everton.

However, one positive the Saints can take away from their two opening fixtures is how well Danny Ings has slotted into the team, although manager Mark Hughes has a word of warning for supporters.

The Breakdown

Speaking ahead of Southampton’s clash against Leicester City, Hughes said (via Daily Mirror): “Danny is just looking to have a strong, solid season with plenty of games. If he has that kind of season we know he can score goals.

“But we don’t want to place too many targets too soon as he is still coming back from a long time out. We have to be a little patient with him. He has the potential to score goals.”

As mentioned by Hughes, with Ings just coming back from a serious injury, Southampton cannot afford to solely rely on the £7.2m-rated (via Transfermarkt) 26-year-old and think he can solve all of their issues.

While Ings is capable of scoring goals, something the Saints struggled with last season, the likes of other new signings Mohamed Elyounoussi and Stuart Armstrong also need to be pulling their weight by creating chances.

Ultimately, Ings has looked good in the couple of appearances he has made for Southampton. But, given that he only recently returned to full fitness and the fact he has been susceptible to serious injuries, the Saints simply cannot put all of their eggs in one basket by chucking too much responsibility at the striker.

Everton fans discuss whether club have missed out on Dembele deal

Last year, Moussa Dembele was linked with big-money moves to elite clubs in the Premier League and Europe.

In the end, though, the Celtic forward joined Lyon in a rather modest £20m deal on transfer deadline day, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The cost of the deal has got some Everton fans talking, with a number of them wondering whether the Toffees should have tried to strike a deal.

During his time at Celtic, Dembele found the back of the net 51 times in 94 appearances, but his form tailed off towards the end.

Hamstring problems affected his progress, and he left the Scottish champions on a sour note by forcing a move away.

Everton had a busy transfer window of their own as they strengthened defence, midfield and attack.

Dembele opted against signing for a Premier League club, but instead decided to return to his homeland of France.

On Reddit, fans debated about whether or not the club missed an opportunity.

HYS: What should Everton do with Kieran Dowell?

Everton fans have been discussing the future of Kieran Dowell, but what should the Toffees do with the 20 year-old midfielder?

[ad_pod ]

When Dowell returned to Goodison this summer, he was probably expecting to get some playing time in rotation with Gylfi Sigurdsson, but the arrival of Bernard seems to have pushed the 20 year-old completely out of the frame.

Dowell scored nine times in 38 Championship appearances on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, and was hugely popular during his stay at the City Ground.

Sigurdsson had an inconsistent first season on Merseyside before an injury cut his season short, but the Icelandic international looks in great shape to start the new season.

Throw in the arrival of 14-cap Brazil playmaker Bernard, and Dowell is facing the prospect of a season without much first team action.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”288872″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafas Pub Facts Murray The Magician & Desperately Seeking Zaha”]

This is why Marco Silva must use Bernard as a winger, meaning Dowell can deputise for Sigurdsson.

The Toffees don’t have a huge depth of options up front, so adding Bernard to the attack would be a huge boost, while also allowing Dowell to strut his stuff as a number ten.

So, Everton fans, what do you think Silva should do with Dowell? Is he ready for the first team? A loan in January? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…

Opinion: Everton should sign Roofe in January to compete with Tosun

Cenk Tosun has yet to fully convince fans on Merseyside that he should be Everton’s front man, and the Toffees should give him some more competition with a January swoop for Kemar Roofe.

[ad_pod ]

What’s the word?

Everton fans were bashing Tosun’s performance against Huddersfield, and it’s already starting to look like a mistake from Marco Silva not signing a striker during the transfer window.

The 29-cap Turkish international is yet to find the net this season, but he did bag five league goals in an awful Sam Allardyce side last season, so he doesn’t deserve to be dropped completely.

This why a move for Roofe makes perfect sense, as the in-form Leeds striker could battle it out with Tosun for that coveted central position in Silva’s 4-3-3 formation.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”288872″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafas Pub Facts Murray The Magician & Desperately Seeking Zaha”]

Why would he be a good signing?

Roofe had never quite found his place at Leeds until Marcelo Bielsa arrived this season, but the 25 year-old is now in red-hot form. He scored 18 times in 40 league appearances for Oxford United before moving to Elland Road in 2016, and a combination of injuries, manager changes and getting stuck on the wing damaged his reputation.

He has hit the ground running under Bielsa though, scoring four times and adding two assists in six Championship games so far. His overall performances have more than warranted the goals as well, as he was crowned Championship player of the month for August.

The pacey striker is averaging 2.5 shots per game, 1.2 key passes per game and a 79 per cent pass completion rate, extremely impressive for the focal point of a Championship side.

He is also absolutely relentless in his pressing, averaging one tackle and 1.8 fouls per game, something that would transition smoothly from Bielsa’s style to Silva’s.

Everton are unlikely to splash out big on a marquee striker signing just 12 months after signing Tosun, so a move for Roofe could be the perfect solution, and may even improve Tosun’s form.

So, Everton fans, would you fancy a January swoop for the Leeds star? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…

Nick Powell would bring a sense of magic to Celtic

Celtic lumbered to a 0-0 draw against St. Mirren at the weekend and have fallen five points behind league leaders Hearts.

The Hoops dominated proceedings but were left in the lurch when Olivier Ntcham was dismissed for two yellow card offences after just 37 minutes. Brendan Rodgers’ enjoyed plenty of possession but couldn’t translate their dominance into goals. The Northern Irishman introduced Leigh Griffiths, but the Bhoys were unable to find a way through and were forced to settle for a point.

Celtic lacked a creative spark in the centre of the pitch to bring the likes of Odsonne Eduoard into the game. Again, it could be argued that the Hoops should have strengthened their side further during the summer transfer window. Rodgers will be looking for a positive result against Rosenborg in their first Europa League group game on Thursday.

The window may be closed, but Rodgers should already be lining up a potential January recruit – Wigan Athletic playmaker, Nick Powell. Valued at £900k by Transfermarkt, the midfielder was poached by Manchester United at a young age but eventually joined the Latics permanently after various loan spells. Powell has developed into a crucial player for his team but has less than one year remaining on his current deal.

The playmaker was crucial in securing promotion to the Championship last season, scoring 15 goals and registering seven assists for his team-mates. His impressive form has continued in the higher division with Powell netting three goals and creating four in his opening seven appearances. His form in front of goal should have Celtic fans licking their lips.

Still only 24-years-old, Powell would flourish at Celtic Park in Rodgers’ system. With excellent dribbling skills, an eye for a pass as well as excellent finishing ability – landing the Englishman should be made a priority.

Celtic fans, thoughts?

West Ham fans throw their support behind Mark Noble

It would be fair to say that Mark Noble has faced his fair share of criticism from the West Ham United supporters in the early stages of the 2018-19 campaign.

Indeed, many blamed Noble as the Hammers suffered four straight defeats at the start of the 2018-19 Premier League season.

Noble was impressive in West Ham’s 3-1 win at Everton on September 16, however, and also played a key role in the goalless draw with Chelsea at the weekend.

The 31-year-old is closing on 450 appearances for the Hammers, and still seems to be a key player at the London Stadium despite the amount of summer arrivals.

There are certainly players in the squad that are more talented, but few work harder than Noble, and the 5ft 11in ace’s performance against Chelsea has not gone unnoticed.

One tweet claimed that Noble ‘is a scapegoat’ when West Ham do not pick up positive results, which led to a host of supporters jumping to his defence.

Revealed: 80% of Tottenham fans don’t want Kamano signed

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham are one of several teams chasing Bordeaux winger Francois Kamano, but a whopping 80 per cent of fans think the signing would be a huge mistake.

According to reports, Tottenham, West Ham and Everton are all eying the winger who has been in red-hot form on the left of Bordeaux’s front three this season.

The report claims several Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on the 22-year-old, but that those three in particular are monitoring him closely.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”302265″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts The Icelandic Coutinho & The Scottish Ronaldo”]

Tottenham of course signed no players this summer, so fans will be desperate for some spending by the time next summer rolls around.

Valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, Kamano has been in fine form for Bordeaux this season, scoring five times in eight games, but four-fifths of fans are against the move.

Pochettino hasn’t had much success signing lightweight attackers from France in recent years, and it seems fans feel this one has Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kévin N’Koudou written all over it.
