Southampton may be struggling near the foot of the table as things stand, but it hasn’t seemed to have dampened the team’s spirits ahead of this weekend’s trip to Wolves.

The Saints currently find themselves balancing precariously above to the relegation zone in 17th place after eight matches, with a defeat against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men potentially dragging them into the bottom three this weekend, should results elsewhere work against them.

After three straight defeats in the top flight, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side take little momentum into their clash with Wolves. However, after having an international break to regroup and refresh, there seems to be a feel-good factor pulsating through the team ahead of Saturday’s trip to the West Midlands – judging by this clip below, anyhow.

Sofiane Boufal is renowned for his trickery and ability to beat a man whichever way he sees fit. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old’s latest victim was his own teammate, Stuart Armstrong, as he nutmegged the Scotland international in training. Even more unfortunately for Armstrong, it was caught on camera and uploaded to the club’s official Twitter page.

The clip hasn’t gone down too well with these Saints fans, however, who are understandably frustrated with the club’s lack of performances on the pitch of late…

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter don’t want defender Jan Vertonghen to start when they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Spurs go into the clash with the Premier League leaders on the back of a much-needed 5-0 win against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, which followed on from a disappointing draw at home to Watford and heavy defeats against Brighton and Hove Albion and Bayern Munich.

Vertonghen started in all three of those as well as against the Serbian club in midweek, but it appears as though some supporters of the north London haven’t been impressed with what they’ve seen from the Belgium international.

The 32-year-old was certainly fortunate not to give a penalty away against the Hornets following his coming together with Gerard Deulofeu, while he also relied on Ben Davies to bail him out on a couple of occasions on Tuesday.

Coming up against a frontline containing Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino is pretty daunting even for the most experienced players, and Tottenham fans are clearly concerned.

While one individual simply said “Mane will destroy him”, another said how he “has been off the pace”.

وأردف تورام: “لذلك لا يمكنك أن تتوقع أن يكون بيرلو مدربًا رائعًا في موسمه الأول، لا يمكنك أن تطلب منه أن يقدم نفس النتائج كمدرب يتمتع بخبرة 10-15 سنة”.

واستطرد: “دعونا لا ننسى، عندما تم تعيين زين الدين زيدان من قبل ريال مدريد، لم تكن هذه أول تجربة له، لقد عمل بالفعل مع فريق الشباب، بالإضافة إلى كونه المدير المساعد لكارلو أنشيلوتي وجوزيه مورينيو”.

Raul Jimenez was yet again on the scoresheet for Wolves in their Europa League victory over Slovan Bratislava on Thursday night, and some Wolves fans have been praising the performance of their Mexican striker in the club’s vital victory.

Jimenez, 28, scored his seventh goal in nine Europa League matches to lift Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to second in the group K table, and the striker’s clinical finish from the spot after he was fouled by Vernon de Marco has given the West Midlands side an excellent opportunity of qualifying for the knock-out stages.

With Wolves having recovered from an initial six-game winless run in the Premier League, Nuno’s side now sit 13th in the table and are unbeaten in four. The impressive team performance on Thursday night, and Jimenez’s display, in particular, has got some Wolves fans praising their striker’s performance against Ján Kozák’s side.

Brandon Williams proved against last night why he could be a future fan favourite with his display in Manchester United’s four-round clash against Chelsea.

Alongside Ashley Young, the 19-year-old has been keeping the left-back spot warm for the absent Luke Shaw, who’s been missing from action since picking up an injury in August.

Williams was charged with the duty of quashing Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi; no easy feat. But despite his relative inexperience, and the quality of his foe, he completed his task superbly finishing the game with one tackle, two interceptions and three clearances.

Back in the day (all the way back), there was an all too common go-to phrase for pushy parents and overly keen coaches: “let them know you’re there with a big challenge.” And while our situation was somewhat different to that of Williams’, who was playing at Stamford Bridge last night and not some dog muck minefield, the core message remains the same – to be as hard and nasty as possible.

And after getting into a little scuffle with Hudson-Odoi on the touchline, he did just that…

Once upon a time, there existed a man by the name of Rafael da Silva. The Brazilian wasn’t necessarily the best footballer in the world, but he was partial to the odd bit of nastiness from time to time, and clearly absolutely loved it (case in point: a lash out at countryman David Luiz who was trying to waste time at the corner flag). It would be nice to see someone with a bit of bite like him back in the United squad.

A lot of things can motivate us in life.

But perhaps the biggest motivator of all is the ability to prove to people that they were wrong about you.

That’s the situation that Brendan Rodgers finds himself in at the King Power Stadium, and after the Foxes’ start to the season, it looks like he’s well on his way to doing that.

What’s been said?

Speaking on Sunday Supplement, Mirror journalist John Cross heaped praise on Leicester and was one of the many people that are predicting them to finish in the top four.

More importantly, he stressed how crucial Rodgers has been to them and how the rest of the league will end up kicking themselves for not appointing him:

“I think that a lot of Premier League clubs missed a trick when they basically didn’t go for, and shied away from Brendan Rodgers. If you look at his career, there might have been a couple of ups and downs, I think he’s always got the best out of young players, he plays attractive football, I like the way he gives players a confidence and a belief.”

Chip on his shoulder

That is probably going to be the biggest driving point behind Leicester and whatever heights they end up reaching, the fact that many people still don’t believe that he can cut it when it comes to top-level management.

Just take a look at how he is looked upon by his former employers, Celtic. Their fans unveiled a banner labelling him a fraud following his departure while similar thoughts have been echoed by some Kopites at Liverpool.

At Anfield, it was because he inherited the players that took them so close to winning the title in 2013/14, then at Celtic it was that winning the title in Scotland with the Bhoys is a relatively easy feat given that they had no serious competition, even from Old Firm rivals Rangers.

That kind of label is inevitably going to give someone a little bit of fire in their belly and the desire to prove everybody else wrong.

So whilst we at FFC still have doubts about how high the Foxes can finish, one thing is for sure, if Rodgers can take them into the top four, then he’ll certainly have gone a long way in proving his many doubters wrong, and may just end up shaking off that ‘fraud’ label once and for all.
