Sheffield Wednesday fans react to Katrien Meire’s departure

On Monday evening, a statement on Sheffield Wednesday’s official website revealed that the club’s chief executive officer Katrien Meire had left the club.

The Belgian only joined Wednesday last January having spent four years in the same role at Charlton Athletic, but has already moved on.

Meire was responsible for the ‘day-to-day running of Wednesday and worked closely on the academy side’, according to The Star.

Wednesday, whose owner Dejphon Chansiri put the club up for sale in December, are now under the management of Steve Bruce.

Bruce has made a positive start to life as head coach, with a 1-0 victory at Ipswich Town on February 2 followed by a goalless draw with Reading last time out.

Meire’s swift departure has come as a surprise, though, and many Wednesday fans have been on social media reacting to the news, which broke on Monday night.

West Ham fans debate Britt Assombalonga signing

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United fans have been interestingly debating whether Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga would be a good signing for the club.

Assombalonga’s application and work-rate have previously been called into question, but the striker has registered 12 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions during the 2018-19 campaign.

The forward’s 10th league goal of the season saw Boro overcome Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon.

And that led to a number of West Ham supporters offering their views on whether the 26-year-old could be an asset to the Hammers.

The debate was kicked off by one particular account on Twitter and it would be fair to say that many struggled to agree whether their club should be looking at the forward.

It looks set to be an interesting summer transfer window for the Hammers, particularly when it comes to the final third of the field.

Liverpool fans rip into Salah performance against Man Utd

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool and Manchester United played out a dour 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The game was marked by a number of injury issues – United were forced into three substitutions in the first half, while Liverpool saw Roberto Firmino seemingly twist his ankle before the interval.

Throughout the game, Liverpool failed to truly test David De Gea in the Old Trafford goal, with Mohamed Salah in particularly poor form.

As the Reds chased the game, the Egypt international, who has scored 20 goals in all competitions thus far this season, was substituted by Jurgen Klopp.

Divock Origi was introduced as his replacement but had no better luck than Salah on the right flank.

And, with the club now only a point clear of Manchester City at the top of the league, Liverpool fans were in no mood to cut Salah any slack. Take a look at the best of the reaction on Twitter below!

Rafa Benitez can be ideal Claude Puel replacement to restore winning mentality at Leicester City

Claude Puel’s reign at Leceister City is at its end. Winless in 7 league games and having lost the confidence of his players, the club were left with little choice but to move him on.

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle man Rafa Benitez is on the Foxes’ shortlist of potential replacements, and in truth, they would struggle to find a better option.

Benitez is free to leave in the summer unless he signs an extension and the prospect of joining Leicester could, perhaps, intrigue him. The former Premier League champions still have a relatively star-studded team – but Puel just hasn’t properly utilised the players at his disposal.

So many players have underperformed, and Benitez has proven his worth at Newcastle with regards to getting the best out of a group of limited individuals.

Knowing his experience at the top, Benitez can not only have them playing attractive football but bring back hopes of winning trophies. While the Foxes may not be strong enough to challenge for the Premier League, with a few upgrades, they can definitely compete on a few fronts in England.

The Spaniard may also help to convince Kasper Schmeichel to stay, while also getting Jaime Vardy and James Maddison back to their best.

He can also utilise their young talents perfectly while attracting more stars to join him at Leicester. Benitez can reinstall a winner’s mentality at Leicester and bring back joy at King Power stadium, making everyone forget about Puel’s disappointing reign.

Moussa Sissoko shows no signs of slowing down

Harry Kane might’ve become Spurs’ all-time European scorer on Tuesday night as Tottenham valiantly stood against the relentless yellow tide of Borussia Dortmund but he wasn’t the man who stuck out in our eyes.

The onus to attack was quite visible on the hosts who had to overturn a deficit of three goals having been embarrassed on Tottenham’s turf two weeks ago and they certainly looked the most likely in the opening exchanges dominating 70 per cent of possession.

Marco Reus missed an excellent opportunity to open the scoring for the hosts, having been denied by a valiant challenge from Jan Vertonghen the German managed to release a shot forcing Hugo Lloris into a save.

Spurs had an opportunity of their own to close things off early on when Son was released into a one-on-one, but the forward failed to make the chance pay.

Lloris was called back into action soon after, first stopping Julian Weigl’s headed off the line, before preventing World Cup hero Mario Gotze’s placed effort from inside the area.

There is a reason Harry Kane is Spurs’ all-time top European scorer and he showed that a few minutes into the second-half, latching onto engine-turned-playmaker Sissoko’s through ball to finish delightfully around Roman Burki.

Lloris would provide one more class save before time, saving low to prevent Spanish marksman Paco Alcacer from scoring Dortmund’s only goal of the tie.

For his heroics, Huge Lloris was quite rightly rewarded Man of the Match, but we think Moussa Sissoko deserves extra credit.

The former bumbling midfielder has come on leaps and bounds this season and has really stepped up when it matters.

Of course, his technical shortcomings are there for all to see, but he has really focused on his strongest assets to compensate and that was evident on Tuesday night.

He was tireless in midfield, shielded his defence well and provided a rare assist for Harry Kane.

Really turned a corner.

Tottenham fans, who do you think deserves the most credit if not Moussa Sissoko?

Man United fans disagree with decision to make Alexis Sanchez available for loan

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed exclusively by The Sun that the club would be looking to loan Alexis Sanchez out for next season in a bid to take his excessive salary off of the wage bill.

The Chilean international is reportedly earning around £391,000-a-week at Old Trafford, with that figure potentially rising to £500,000 depending on bonuses.

Watch the video below to find out what Jesse Lingard is like off the pitch in the latest Match Of The Bae with Emma Conybeare…

Since his arrival at the club in January 2018, the 30-year-old has scored just five goals in a United shirt and has thoroughly disappointed those who were excited by his arrival.

It is unlikely that, given his woeful form, proneness to injuries, and his huge wage packet, any club will want to take the former Arsenal man from United’s hands, hence the 20-time Premier League champions’ decision to find a loan move for him.

It may sound odd, but with just over three years left on his contract, it is a sensible decision by the club.

Some United fans on Twitter, however, think the decision is a baffling one…

Is he right? Liverpool fans torn after Scott Parker calls them the ‘best counter attacking team in Europe’

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Fulham boss Scott Parker called the Reds ‘the best counter attacking team in Europe’.

Parker was overseeing just his second game in charge of the Cottagers since Claudio Ranieri was sacked, and watched his charges make life difficult for Jurgen Klopp’s title hopefuls at Craven Cottage.

Has Alisson been Liverpool’s most important signing of the season? Check out the video below to find out why Jurgen Klopp thinks so…

With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino up top, whilst Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold bomb up and down the flanks, the Merseysiders are excellent on the counter-attack, transitioning from defence to attack almost instantaneously.

Parker is spot on with his comments – he would be hard pressed not to say what he said having watched Liverpool score against Fulham at Anfield just 14 seconds after a long throw out from Alisson – the Brazilian stopper is key to their counter-attacking brilliance.

Whilst Parker has hit the nail on the head, his comments seem to have split the Reds fanbase who aren’t all in agreement with the former West Ham midfielder’s comments…

Andre Gomes would be perfect partner for Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur fans will grow in anxiety as the international break progresses with an injury to one of their stars possibly putting their top four hopes in doubt.

Spurs have been absolutely dreadful in recent times in the Premier League and fans are beginning to lose their patience, with a Champions League place now far from guaranteed for next season.

Although, one positive for fans is the fact that Daniel Levy may be looking to spend in the summer, as according to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur could launch a surprise move for Andre Gomes.

Gomes is exactly the kind of player who could take Spurs’ midfield to the next level, as well as bringing their attacking game on leaps and bounds. The midfielder has set the Premier League alight this season with his performances at Goodison Park by creating a sense of calmness on the ball and displaying his wide range of passing.

Spurs moving for the Portugal international would be brilliant for the fans and the players, especially Christian Eriksen, as Gomes could thrive alongside the Dane. Eriksen desperately needs a creative midfielder alongside him to help start attacks and to create space for him to work in. Also, the Everton man thrives off quick one-two passes around the box, which is something that has benefited Spurs this season.

Although, Daniel Levy may find it difficult to lure the midfielder to North London as fellow Premier League side Everton are looking to sign him permanently in the summer transfer window. But, after spending the last couple of transfer windows saving up, perhaps Levy will now go big to bring the 25-year-old in.

Danny Graham revelation could be the answer to Blackburn’s hopes

Danny Graham has been in great form for Blackburn Rovers since making his return and news that he is open to the idea of finishing his career with the club will truly excite fans.

The former Sunderland forward recorded his 50th goal for the club with a brace against Wigan earlier this month and has shown the kind of goalscoring antics that promises major Championship success if they are harnessed correctly.

“I’m 33 now, I know I’m not going to be around forever,” Graham told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I’m enjoying my football. I love being at this football club and if I can get a few more before the end of the season, I will have the off season, work hard and look to have a strong season next year.

“I certainly would. I don’t see myself moving to another club. If there was a chance I don’t think I would take it.

“I’m very settled here. I love the boys, staff, everyone around the club.”

This positive news follows a tumultuous period at Sunderland where he was shipped out on loan four times before finally making a permanent move to his current side, and Graham clearly could not be any happier after admitting he had fallen out of love with football while at the Stadium of Light.

“More importantly for me, after my time with Sunderland, I’m enjoying my football again and I want that to continue,” he admitted.

“I don’t see the need to move on or leave any time soon.”

He may be 33-years-old now, and closing in on the twilight years of his career, but Graham has shown great form since joining Ewood Park netting double figures in the previous three season.

You need only look at the case of Billy Sharp to appreciate why keeping Danny Graham is so significant. Indeed, the Blades’ star man has consistently performed at this level, rising as one of the English Football League’s most proficient forwards, and his efforts are finally paying dividend this term.

Should Graham continue this promising vein of form, there is no reason why Blackburn could not taste promotion in the next couple of years.

Blackburn fans, how important is Danny Graham to your future promotion hopes? Let us know in the comments below…

Joe Worrall is the man to replace Benalouane if he leaves

It looks like Yohan Benalouane could be on his way out of Nottingham Forest, so the club need to find a replacement for their promotion challenge next season. They don’t have to look far though because Joe Worrall looks like just the man to step in.

Footmercato have linked Benalouane to West Ham, Leeds and Cardiff, but now they’ve got the option to keep Joe Worrall, they won’t have to worry as much as they would have done otherwise. He’s been a revelation in Scotland and they’ll hope to embed him at the City Ground next campaign.

He’s played 19 times for Rangers this season and has become one of the first names on the teamsheet at centre-back. Steven Gerrard reportedly (via the Express) fancies taking him to Glasgow on a permanent basis, but unless Worrall forces that move, Forest will be very keen to make him their Benalouane replacement.

Indeed, club legend Kenny Burns even spoke on how the enforcer will return to Nottingham a much better player, so it’s hard to see him being allowed to leave on a permanent basis.

He’s just 22-years-old and now has the game time under his belt, performing at a club where the fans have similarly high expectations as those at Forest do. The club crave to be back in the Premier League and Worrall could provide the solid back-line leadership required to earn promotion.

He’s a Nottingham lad so the fans will have much more patience with him than they would do with a player brought in for a big fee. It’ll also send the right message to the club’s academy players, signifying that if you bide your time and perform well on loan, you’ll get your chance in the first team.

He has one year left on his contract, so if Benalouane leaves, it’s time to call back Worrall, see what he’s made of in the first team and then offer him a contract that will hopefully see Forest back into the Premier League.
