Tottenham Hotspur: Video of Hugo Lloris isn’t enough to lift some fans’ spirits

Hugo Lloris will not feature for Tottenham Hotspur again in 2019, after dislocating his elbow against Brighton & Hove Albion, as has been reported by talkSPORT.

However, the Spurs captain seems to have remained in high spirits, with the club posting a video of the Frenchman greeting his teammates while he continues his rehabilitation:

The spirits of some Spurs fans are not as high as those of the 32-year-old though, with concerns around the team’s performances and the goalkeeper himself being aired in the replies.

Lloris has played 9 games across the Champions League and Premier League this campaign, conceding 17 goals and keeping just 1 clean sheet, as per Transfermarkt.

To make things worse, this comes in a season where Spurs have only won 3 games from 11 in all competitions so far.

Some fans are suggesting the club needs to buy a new goalkeeper to fix their problems, while there have been other suggestions that the Frenchman should be stripped of his captaincy.

A selection of Twitter reaction to the video, including posts from downhearted Spurs fans, can be seen below:

Manchester United: Fans react to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s post on Twitter

Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League may not have been convincing, but ultimately they got the job done.

An Anthony Martial penalty just before half time was enough to separate the two sides, though the Serbians did come close to finding the net and even struck the woodwork in the first half.

United moved to the top of their qualifying group, while Partizan drop down to third place.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka can be happy with his individual performance last night, as the 21-year-old kept a clean sheet. The former Crystal Palace full-back made a total of 3 tackles, 1 interception and 1 clearance for United against Partizan, alongside contributing in attack with a successful dribble and key pass (via WhoScored).

After the match, Wan-Bissaka took to Twitter to wish all of the travelling United fans a safe journey home. The Englishman also wrote ‘a win is a win’, clearly understanding that the match was by no means a spectacle, but that his team got the job done in the end.

Here’s how fans reacted to Wan-Bissaka’s performance last night:

Real Madrid would finally get their Galactico with Kylian Mbappe

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Real Madrid are on a hunt for a big-money signing in the not so distant future. And according to the new reports coming from AS, Florentino Perez has already made up his mind – he’s going for Kylian Mbappe.

What’s the word, then?

Mbappe to Real Madrid is not really a fresh story.

After all, the young French prodigy has been on Real Madrid’s wishlist for quite a while now. In many ways, he represents exactly what the club needs to become Galacticos once again – a star signing, both in cost and quality.

The same source also mentions that this would indeed be a costly venture.

After all, we’re talking about a super talent who has already lifted the World Cup and for that reason, it could take around €300m (£242m) to convince Paris Saint-Germain to part with their gem, as AS explain.

But at the end of the day, you can’t really put a price on a revolution, can you?

Galacticos once more

Throughout the summer, we were all expecting Real Madrid to pillage the best clubs in Europe and build a formidable squad capable of conquering the world.

And despite spending around €300m (£242m) in the summer transfer window of 2019, no such thing has happened and the media were quick to bash the club for it – especially as they missed out on Neymar and Paul Pogba, two players with huge Galactico-esque reputations.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

Whether their rocky start to the campaign – winning only five of nine La Liga games and losing twice in the Champions League – has been a direct result of that or not is a story for another time but quite clearly, they are still in need of reinforcements and someone to usher a new era at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mbappe truly represents a top prospect that Real Madrid can build their squad around; someone who’s both young and already well-developed to lead.

After all, we’re talking about a kid that already has six goals and four assists in eight games played across all competitions this season, and 39 goals scored in the 2018/19 campaign for the French giants.

But Paris Saint-Germain are not really a selling club. It will take a lot of convincing but if someone can do it, then that’s “papa Perez”.

Spurs fans can’t be drawn in by Isco and Christian Eriksen swap report

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Real Madrid playmaker Isco and Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen could swap clubs in January, per Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the word?

The report states that the Spain international is deemed expendable by Los Blancos as the next transfer window draws closer.

Real would like to receive around €70m (£60.2m) for his signature, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Juventus also reported to be interested.

However, Eriksen is deemed as a potential replacement for Isco and, as such, Mundo Deportivo claims that Spurs would be open to a swap, though they are not said to be willing to pay the fee demanded by the Spanish giants.

Too good to be true

This feels like one plus one equals three.

Isco has struggled with injuries this season and has just four La Liga appearances to his name, though he has not managed to complete the 90 minutes even once.

Last season, he made a total of 11 starts in the domestic league and completed the entire game on just three occasions.

One has to ask, then, why Real would need to replace him if he did depart.

Eriksen, of course, is attainable due to his contract situation and various reports have stated that he has long wanted a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

While Isco is a hugely talented player – he has scored 48 goals and provided 52 assists for Real in 281 appearances and also won 38 caps for Spain – it doesn’t feel feasible to consider Spurs being offered the chance to take him in exchange for a player who would be available on a free in the summer anyway.

Isco’s contract, in comparison, doesn’t expire until 2o22 and thus his value is much better protected.

Add in the fact that Spurs don’t really want to pay the fee needed to extricate him – suggesting their interest in Isco isn’t particularly strong – and the argument falls flat on its face.

Crystal Palace fans are excited by a report outlining Jose Mourinho’s intentions

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter following a report from Sky Sports revealing Jose Mourinho’s reported intentions for his next job, and they seem excited by the news.

The report states that Mourinho, who last managed Manchester United, wants to return to England due to his desire to win major trophies with a third English club.

The Portuguese coach won three Premier League titles during his stint with Chelsea, as well as the League Cup and the FA Cup, while the 56-year-old also won the League Cup and the Europa League whilst with Manchester United.

Mourinho has been out of work since the Red Devils sacked him back in December, and reportedly rejected Benfica’s advances in January as well as a staggering £88m offer from China in the summer.

Crystal Palace don’t seem like an obvious choice to fulfil Mourinho’s desire of winning major honours, although some fans seem excited by the news, perhaps because of the former Porto boss’ fondness for the south London side – he has been full of praise for the Eagles and their supporters on numerous occasions over the years.

Let’s take a look at what some Palace fans on Twitter have been saying…

Claudio Bravo could write his name into Man City folklore at Anfield

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Claudio Bravo could write his name into Manchester City folklore in the upcoming fixture against Liverpool. Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Ederson will miss the vital clash at Anfield after he was withdrawn against Atalanta through injury.

The Brazilian has failed to recover in time, and as much as he could be a huge miss, it gives Bravo a unique opportunity to rewrite the script and transform his dubious reputation in Manchester.

The 36-year-old has bags of experience in these massive fixtures, helping Chile win two Copa America’s and playing 37 times for Barcelona in their 2014-15 La Liga win.

Despite the fact his frailties have come to dominate his reputation, the Chilean is also no stranger to shot-stopping at crucial times for the Citizens since he joined the club for £15.4m.

Bravo played six times as City won the EFL Cup back in 2017-18, where he also kept two clean sheets and was the hero in two penalty shootouts.

Against the Reds, it has now become a must-win game for the champions with the current standings. A win for Liverpool and the Merseysiders will go nine clear at the top of the table after just 12 games.

However, similar to Willy Caballero, Bravo has the chance to steal City hearts.

Once upon a time, Caballero was not an appreciated figure by City fans, but his heroics in a penalty shootout victory against Liverpool in 2016 saw him become something of a cult hero. Chants of “walking in a Willy wonderland” and “he used to be s****, but now he’s alright” became popular terrace anthems in light of his performance against the Reds, proving that players are capable of shaping their reputation during these gargantuan fixtures.

Now, the Chilean has the chance to do the same against an almighty side.

The front three for Liverpool have once again been in excellent form and any keeper would need to be in supreme form to keep them at bay. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have 19 goals between them thus far, and the famous trio are likely to be relishing the prospect of getting at City and testing the number two between the sticks.

Bravo has the chance to stop the goal machines of Liverpool, and should he do that, there could be a place waiting for him in club folklore.

Well, at least if the hosts are awarded penalty, Bravo will have a psychological advantage.

Man City fans are pleased that Sterling is getting a rest amid England controversy

Manchester City fans are buzzing with news that Raheem Sterling will miss England’s game on Thursday after an altercation with Liverpool man Joe Gomez.

It has been reported that emotions seemed to boil over from the weekend clash, with Sterling causing a disturbance in a private team area. As a result, Gareth Southgate will rest the winger for the upcoming clash with Montenegro.

The City superstar has been in mesmerising form over the past couple of years and has established himself as one of Europe’s best in the process. Now, the City faithful are pleased he will get a deserved rest this week.

One fan has simply put he “finally gets a rest”, as another supporter touched on how there is “no chance of injury” with him sitting in the stands.

Sterling’s 14 goals in 16 appearances this season have made him an essential ingredient to the title-chasing squad under Pep Guardiola.

It has, however, also meant that the 24-year-old has rarely been afforded a chance to rest. The winger has started every league game and played in every Champions League match, whilst even starting one EFL Cup tie.

Here’s what the fans have had to say about the recent news…

Wolves fans gush over Joao Moutinho’s masterclass vs Aston Villa

Wolverhampton Wanderers climbed to eighth from 15th in the Premier League table with a resolute 2-1 victory over local rivals Aston Villa at Molineux on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez were enough to secure all three points for Nuno Santo’s side.

In truth, Trezeguet’s strike in injury time was merely a flattering consolation for the visitors, who looked ever so weak in the absence of first-team regulars Tom Heaton, Bjorn Engels, and captain Jack Grealish.

Wolves saw 12 of their 17 shots at goal come from inside the penalty area while Dean Smith’s men could only muster up five from 13 attempts, per SofaScore.

Much of the home support singled out Joao Moutinho for his performance in the gold shirt. The 33-year-old did provide the assist for Neves’ long-range opener.

One supporter called him an ‘absolute machine’ in midfield and that he pocketed John McGinn all game while ‘fabulous,’ ‘magician,’ and ‘world-class’ were just three other words used to describe the Portuguese playmaker.

Another fan claimed Moutinho was a joy to watch as he’s a ‘general’ in midfield with one more believing he’s the best player Wolves have ever had at the club.

Here’s the best of the reaction:

Juventus would go up a level by re-signing Manchester United’s Paul Pogba

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to new reports coming from El Desmarque, Juventus are open to bringing Paul Pogba back to Italy as the midfielder’s form and status at the club have plummeted.

With the return of the Frenchman, Maurizio Sarri could set his sights on that European cup.

What’s the word, then?

Pogba being at the centre of another transfer rumour is nothing particularly new and neither is the notion of his potential return to the Old Lady.

The coveted Frenchman was part of the Bianconeri family from 2012 until 2016 when he decided to re-join the Red Devils, a team whose colours he defended prior to his spell with Juventus.

Now he could be going full circle and returning to Turin once more, as the new reports are suggesting.

El Desmarque also mention how both his status and form have somewhat dipped in recent times which could ultimately affect the asking price.

But even with that being said, only an offer of around €150m (£128.4m) is expected to be enough to convince Manchester United that it’s time to let the Frenchman go.

Next level

Juventus already look formidable under Maurizio Sarri and their midfield also has a lot of potential and firepower with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira, Aaron Ramsey and co. pulling the strings.

But adding Pogba to the mix could benefit all parties immensely and take Juventus to another level.

Despite currently not being in the best place, seeing how he only has six games under his belt across all competitions this season for Manchester United, the 26-year-old Frenchman is still in his best years and has a lot to offer.

Let’s not forget we’re talking about a player who bagged 13 goals and nine assists in 2018/19 Premier League campaign and averaged three shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game. He’s also a World Cup winner and already knows how to dominate Serie A, winning four consecutive titles there.

The Bianconeri are yet to lift the Champions League trophy despite being in several finals already while Pogba is now seemingly in need of a second chance away from Old Trafford, having said back in the summer that he’d like a new challenge.

United, on the other hand, would be getting a lot of money for a player who has insinuated he no longer wants to be there, who has struggled to consistently justify his previous world-record price-tag and who has been affected by injuries of late.

All three sides could leave this transaction happy and for that reason, its completion no longer sounds like a stretch. Juventus only have to be brave enough to pull the trigger.

Besides, Cristiano Ronaldo has personally given his OK, as per El Desmarque’s claims.

That should already be enough, shouldn’t it?

Tottenham targeting Nicolo Zaniolo could provide boost to key figure

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Tottenham have targeted the signing of Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, according to The Express.

What’s the latest?

Spurs have been tracking the attacking midfielder for some time now but a change in manager could have seen a change in approach in the transfer market, but Jose Mourinho too is reportedly interested in the playmaker.

With Christian Eriksen possibly on his way out in January, the Italy international would act as a like-for-like replacement and ensure the new boss still has creative players at his disposal.

However, he could face competition for his signature from his former club Manchester United, who are believed to be chasing a £50m deal for the 20-year-old.

Another point of difficulty for Spurs is that Zaniolo only signed a new five-year contract in the summer, and therefore it is possible that neither he nor Roma has any interest in him departing the club.

[ad_pod ]

Necessary step?

Tottenham have been reliant on the creativity of Christian Eriksen for several years now, and it is no surprise that his downturn in form has coincided with terrible results on the pitch.

The Denmark international looks a shadow of his former self and no longer seems happy in a Spurs shirt, which is reflected by his two goals and one assist this season.

It is probably best for both parties that he moves on, and another hungrier talent is brought in – Zaniolo fits the mould.

He is a different type of playmaker to Eriksen, more similar to Dele Alli in the way he finds space effectively in and around the penalty box, often making his way into goal-scoring positions – with seven goals to his name in 2019/20.

As a result, he would be a good addition to the squad and is a player Mourinho would need if Eriksen left. Although the Dane hasn’t reached his typical high standards, he still possesses a quality which could benefit the squad on occasion.

Daniel Levy bringing in a big-money signing would signal the ambition and trust he has in Mourinho, which would signal to him that the club wants to move in the right direction.
