Crystal Palace fans react to Cheikhou Kouyate’s terrible miss against Burnley

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react following Cheikhou Kouyate’s shocking miss against Burnley on Saturday. The Eagles still managed to win the game by two goals to nil, although the Senegal international missed an absolute sitter while the scoreline was still at 0-0.

Andros Townsend floated a lovely cross to the back stick where the former West Ham man was in acres of space, but the 6 foot 4 midfielder sliced his effort horribly before it ended up at the feet of Patrick van Aanholt, who squared for Jordan Ayew to tap home – however, the goal was later ruled out as the Dutchman was adjudged to have been offside.

Kouyate – a £11m signing from West Ham – has never scored for Palace in 49 appearances for the club, and with efforts like the one against Sean Dyche’s men, it feels unlikely that he will ever score.

Let’s take a look at how the Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the 29-year-old’s awful miss…

Man Utd fans will love Odion Ighalo’s response

It seems the lack of football action is starting to get to Manchester United’s January signing Odion Ighalo.

The Nigerian international posted on Twitter to express his boredom, and that soon transpired into becoming an ad hoc Q&A in the replies section.

Hilariously obscure Premier League players – Can you name them all?

One Twitter user asked him to reveal what he loves about his new club, and Ighalo gave a simple one-word reply: Everything.

Ighalo’s arrival at Old Trafford in January certainly raised a few eyebrows, not least because the deal took place in the final hours of the winter transfer window.

However, the 30-year-old has been an effective addition when called upon. He’s already grabbed four goals and one assist for the Red Devils, scoring twice in the Europa League and bagging a brace against Derby County in the FA Cup.

Who knows how long we’ll be waiting for the Premier League to start up again, but it seems Ighalo is eager to get back to serving the club he loves so much as soon as possible.

Tottenham Hotspur: Fans drool over Son Heung-min’s goal of the season award

Son Heung-min has been given the Match of the Day Goal of the Season award for his exceptional effort against Nick Pope in a Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ever since he arrived at White Hart Lane in 2015, Son has scored some phenomenal goals for Spurs over the years. As the speedy dribbler is best known for being a potent counter-attacking threat, it is fair to say his wonder goal during the 5-0 thrashing of Burnley is no exception to the rule.

The official Match of the Day account posted the announcement on Twitter and Tottenham fan page @LastWordOnSpurs shared the news with footage of the South Korean’s goal at home to the Clarets, a shot that put the game far beyond Sean Dyche’s men as Spurs entered the halftime break with a 3-0 lead. The 27-year-old danced through a number of opponents, including Robbie Brady and James Tarkowski, before thumping the ball past the helpless goalkeeper with a calm right-footed finish (The Guardian).

Jose Mourinho’s side went on to comfortably dispatch Dyche’s team thanks to further efforts from Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko, although Son’s solo strike understandably stole the show. Unsurprisingly, loads of Spurs fans drooled over the fan favourite’s award, with one supporter describing the “piece of individual genius” as “amazing,” and another adding “nice one Sonny.”

Man Utd fans stunned by Andreas Pereira’s latest comments

It’s safe to say Andreas Pereira’s latest comments haven’t gone down too well with Manchester United fans.

The Brazilian has been a regular for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season, making 37 appearances across all competitions. However, he has once again found it difficult to deliver an end product, with just two goals and four assists to his name – his last contribution in the Premier League came way back in December against Burnley.

Spot the fact from the fib: Are these Premier League records true or false?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Speaking to Brazilian publication Globo Esporte (as quoted by The Manchester Evening News), Pereira opened up on his future, and revealed that he still harbours a major ambition.

He said: “For now, I only dream of playing here. But of course, as a player, you would always like to play for another big club. I really like Barcelona and Real Madrid, they are top teams too. Bayern Munich. But at the moment I’m focused here at Manchester United. They provided everything for me since I was 16. So, I’d play here my whole life until I won everything here, then I’d go to Santos.”

After hearing Pereira’s comments, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the midfielder.

One United fan in particular meanwhile, simply suggested that Pereira should be gotten rid of after his comments.

There’s certainly nothing wrong with Pereira holding a desire to play for some of the biggest and best clubs in Europe.

United fans however, having seen him week-in and week-out at Old Trafford, feel the Brazilian may have his head in the clouds, and seem to be completely baffled.

Judging by his performances this season, Pereira won’t be of interest to the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid anytime soon.

Newcastle fans lay into Richard Keys after takeover comments

Newcastle United’s £300m takeover continues to rumble on into yet another week, leaving fans rather anxious and annoyed by the whole situation and now Richard Keys has riled up the Magpies faithful with a fresh set of comments.

Speaking in a special broadcast on beIN Sports with long-time presenting partner Andy Gray, Keys said: “I’m wondering how much pressure the government has actually put on the Premier League. This is just my thoughts. How much pressure has been put on the Premier League, who know they should turn this down.”

Those in the northeast have been awaiting the day that Mike Ashley departs St James’ Park for the best part of ten years – if not more – after suffering many seasons of mediocrity which is epitomised by two relegations to the Championship.

This is a club that won the UEFA Intertoto Cup a couple of seasons after making the UEFA Cup semi-finals under Sir Bobby Robson.

The notion that a new era, backed by a very wealthy state, is exactly what fans want to bring joy back to their club, which is why many have slammed Keys for making such remarks during this period of uncertainty.

Plenty seem to believe that he’s speaking for mere self-interest, given his employers are a fellow Middle East state in Qatar whilst others have blasted him for his behaviour.

Some also claim that Keys has a massive agenda against United for some reason, which doesn’t help his cause here whatsoever.

Mason Greenwood – Profile

Name: Mason Greenwood

Club: Manchester United

Date of Birth: 1 October 2001

Position: Centre-forward

Mason Greenwood – his career so far

By now, Mason Greenwood is a well-known quantity at Manchester United and if the early signs are anything to go by at all, soon the whole footballing world should become quite familiar with his name.

The 18-year-old centre-forward is still only getting started with his career and yet, it seems that he’s already destined for greatness, such is the extent of his talent and potential. His first footballing steps, however, were made in Man United’s academy, which he joined at the age of six, training and developing in Halifax.

His progress through the youth ranks was quite swift and by the beginning of the 2017/18 season, Greenwood was already on the doorstep of the Red Devils’ U18 squad. This was quite impressive, especially since he was still a schoolboy registered with the U16s and yet he managed to end the campaign as the Premier League North’s top-scorer.

All of that success was soon followed up with a call-up to the senior team’s pre-season tour and after blistering starts with both the U18s and U19s in the UEFA Youth Cup, he was rewarded with his first professional contract in October that same year.

Of course, there would still be hurdles to jump over before he could be considered a fully-fledged first-team player and as a whole, Greenwood played a total of 34 games for the U18 squad, netting 34 goals and eight assists while his shorter stay with the U23s was marked with eight games, five goals and two assists.

After sitting on the bench for one of the senior games, the now 18-year-old centre-forward would finally get his debut at the Parc des Princes in Man United’s second leg of a knockout Champions League tie with Paris Saint-Germain in March 2019. His first start came in the final game of the Premier League season against Cardiff City at Old Trafford.

But he came a long way since his bow with the first-team, already tallying 40 games under his belt and scoring a total of 12 goals and assisting another four in the process as well.

Needless to say, he is one for the future and the Red Devils are extremely lucky to have him in their ranks.

Transfer latest

It’s pretty safe to say that Greenwood is not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. He is already a far too important piece of the Man United puzzle to be even considering the possibility of leaving Old Trafford.

Not only that but some recent transfer rumours suggest that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is even scrapping the potential signing of Harry Kane because it could harm Greenwood’s development. That is some huge Manchester United news for the fans right there.

On a similar note, the youngster has been so widely praised in the media in recent times that it wouldn’t really surprise to see other top teams and various transfer news start to appear in the conversation as we approach the summer transfer window.

But as things currently stand, Greenwood is staying at Man United and there are really no two ways about it.

Player profile

Earlier in his career, Greenwood was usually deployed as the no.10, slotting right behind the centre-forward and often being the link between the middle and the final thirds of the pitch. But over the years, his game has evolved and the young gem is now more of a striker himself.

What immediately catches the eye is his ability to play with both feet and his exceptional movement across the final third and especially inside the box, where he is adept and creating and exploiting space for both himself and his teammates.

And since he is versatile enough and possesses the pace and good technical abilities, he’s also been known to shift out wide to the right side at Man United. But even so, he often drifts back centrally and pins down the defenders during the offensive phase.

While he can use his speed to beat opponents in a direct 1v1 confrontation, he often uses it to exploit free pockets of space across the pitch. His intelligent movement and positioning, paired up with lethality and technique, make him an incredibly difficult player to mark and a huge asset to his team.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs could benefit if Mauricio Pochettino becomes new Benfica manager

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino could be set for a return to the dugout shortly in a move which would see his old club benefit.

Pochettino has been out of a job ever since he was sacked by Daniel Levy in November last year but he may be about to make a shock return to action. According to Record, as relayed by the Daily Mail, Benfica are reportedly interested in appointing the Argentine as their new manager.

The Portugal outlet claims that Benfica are ready to sack Bruno Lage even though they are only three points behind Porto in the Primeira Liga.

Whatever happens, this could be good news for Daniel Levy.

Levy sacked Pochettino after five years in charge of Tottenham as the club had made a disappointing start to the season. He has been linked with a return to the Premier League, amid interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United.

However, a move to Old Trafford seems unlikely, as Ed Woodward has thrown his support behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Meanwhile, Newcastle are in the middle of a takeover but nothing has materialised as of yet, so the Tyneside club may have bigger priorities at present.

Benfica have now thrown their name into the mix and they are determined to hire Pochettino at all costs.

Even though Pochettino lost his job last year, Levy still holds all the cards, which is hardly surprising as his reputation precedes him.

Indeed, The Telegraph revealed that Spurs will be entitled to compensation from any club that attempts to appoint him before the end of the season. It is worth pointing out this also applies to overseas clubs like Real Madrid and Benfica.

The Premier League restarted behind closed doors earlier this month and is expected to finish at the end of July, although fixtures are subject to change as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

The Eagles are on course to reach the Champions League playoffs but are keen to sign him as soon as possible. Nevertheless, they may have to pay the Lilywhites a hamdsome fee if Pochettino accepts an offer from the Lisbon giants.

Glasgow Rangers: Fans wax lyrical about Joe Aribo

Glasgow Rangers continued their fantastic pre-season form on Wednesday in their latest warm-up match.

The Gers played Motherwell at Ibrox – albeit after a two-hour delay as the 54-time Scottish champions waited for their test results to come in – and they put their rivals to the sword with a 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Joe Aribo and an own goal. This win follows their success in the Veolia Trophy, where they beat Lyon and Nice 2-0, whilst they also defeated Hamilton 2-1 before their visit to France.

In this game, Aribo was in stunning form, and his goal was fantastically well taken – he showed his impressive control inside the box before he coolly slotted past the keeper. The Gers fans were clearly taken aback by his display overall, and they were quick to wax lyrical about the 24-year-old – one fan even said he was worth £20m whilst another compared him to fellow midfielder Paul Pogba, suggesting he is the ‘player Paul Pogba wants to be’.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Liverpool: Predicted XI to face Burnley at Anfield

Liverpool will hope to grab another three points as they continue their run for a 100-point season finish.

The Reds will host Burnley at Anfield in their fourth match as Premier League champions. Jurgen Klopp’s men need just eight more points from the remaining fixtures to finish the campaign as centurions. A win against Burnley will continue their 100% success rate on home soil for this season – the Merseyside outfit haven’t lost or drawn a single fixture at Anfield (via Transfermarkt).

Since the Reds wrapped up the league, Klopp has played about with his starting lineups and has introduced the likes of Neco Williams to his first league start.

Transfer Tavern have predicted how Liverpool could set up against the Clarets this afternoon, including four changes…

Mohamed Salah has been involved in six goal contributions in the four appearances he has made since the Premier League restarted. The Egyptian is on track for winning his third consecutive Golden Boot with his current goal count of 19 for the season. He needs to add just three more to his tally to draw level with leading scorer Jamie Vardy (via Premier League).

After a lacklustre performance from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain against Brighton (earning a Sofascore rating of 6.9), Klopp may want to return to full-strength in attack and start Sadio Mane.

Only one man will keep his midfield place with two changes likely to come in, in the middle of the park. Jordan Henderson will not feature due to an injury picked up against the Seagulls, which will more than likely mean Fabinho will play the defensive midfield role. Naby Keita should keep his position after providing two assists in his last two matches (via Sofascore).

Curtis Jones could find himself amongst the starting players with Georginio Wijnaldum earning a disappointing 6.3 rating against the Seagulls.

Liverpool’s back five may see one change, with Neco Williams moving to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right with Andy Robertson returning to the XI at left-back.

Tottenham Hotspur: AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen interested in Spurs target Ben Godfrey

Tottenham Hotspur will face stiff competition from AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen for Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey, according to Sky Sports.

The Sun claimed Spurs were one of several sides interested in the England U21 international in July.

Godfrey featured 30 times for Daniel Farke’s side in the Premier League, although their return to the English top flight ended in relegation.

The 22-year-old is now a key target for the Bundesliga club, who are expected to step up their efforts to sign him this summer once Kai Havertz completes his expected move to Chelsea.

Recent reports revealed his representatives met with AC Milan officials before the Rossoneri ran riot over Cagliari at the weekend.

While the centre-back failed to keep the Canaries up, he has still done enough to catch the eye of a number of European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

Jose Mourinho needs to find a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who left north London last month, and Godfrey could be the long-term solution to the problem.

However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has his work cut out, as Norwich are confident he can become a fully-fledged international, and want at least £30m for the former York City academy graduate as a result.

Levy could find himself embroiled in a bidding war if he’s not too careful as there seems to be so much interest in the defender. He won’t come cheap with three years remaining on his current contract. The Canaries are reluctant to sell one of their best players but could be forced to change their minds if they receive the right offer.

Tottenham fans, do you think Levy should sign Godfrey this summer? Let us know down below!
