Sancho expected to leave Old Trafford
Juventus agreed deal with Man Utd
Winger holding out for Chelsea
WHAT HAPPENED?
After Juventus agreed a deal with Manchester United to take Sancho off their hands, now report that the England international would prefer a move to Chelsea. Serie A giants Juve quickly shunted Federico Chiesa out of the door to Liverpool to press ahead with their efforts to secure Sancho on an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Any hope Sancho has of moving from Manchester to London depends on Chelsea's ability to negotiate a swap deal for Raheem Sterling. It is reported that any deal for the former Borussia Dortmund winger must include the 29-year-old heading the other way.
DID YOU KNOW?
Sancho played a key role in helping Borussia Dortmund get to the Champions League final while on loan back in Germany last season. The 24-year-old made 21 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund.

WHAT NEXT FOR SANCHO?
With just a few days left in the transfer market, there is little time remaining for the Red Devils to iron out a complicated deal with the Blues. Sancho may have to settle for Juventus in the end, finally bringing his miserable chapter at Old Trafford to a close.

Fans unhappy with Carabao Cup draw
Draw protects clubs playing in Europe
Fans feel EFL protecting the 'Big Six'
WHAT HAPPENED?
On Wednesday evening, the EFL announced the fixture list for the third round of the Carabao Cup with the Premier League's 'Big Six' avoiding clashes against each other. However, fans are not happy with a few fixture selection rules that were put in place ahead of the draw, which ensured that any club playing European football would not be drawn against each other and instead would play a round two winner.

WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING
@JSB93x on X criticised the draw and said: "Football is finished. Favours the top teams in so many ways. Here is another prime example of the corruptness, bending over for them!"
@JuceeRob said: "Shambolic draw with PL teams guaranteed home advantage. Undermined the fairness of a normal cup draw."
@themkjones reiterated the fans' views: "This Carabao cup draw is a disgrace. The so called ‘big’ sides now not only get a bye into the third round the majority just got given a home draw as well as not being able to face each other. Not acceptable and needs more condemnation."
@rob_davies said: "Can anyone explain why it would make any difference to “scheduling” if the European clubs got drawn together or is this just a daft way to engineer a way to keep the bigger clubs in the cup for longer?"
@ZaynafamilyMary said: "The integrity of the competition is in tatters when the “big clubs” are protected from playing each other and cushioned with home ties. It’s getting to the point of why should the rest of the participants bother when they are only padding in the boring charade."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
After the draw allocation almost all of the Premier League clubs have avoided a draw against fellow league sides with Arne Slot's Liverpool being the only 'Big Six' side to play against a rival as they take on West Ham. Manchester United will host Barnsley, while Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea will host Watford, Bolton and Barrow, respectively to close out the draws.

Here is a detailed look at Brazil’s 10 most-capped players:
10
Djalma Santos
98 caps
Former full-back Djalma Santos made almost 950 appearances at club level during his career and also represented Brazil on 98 occasions.
Santos played in four successive World Cups between 1954 and 1966, winning the tournament in 1958 and 1962 before retiring from football at the age of 42 in 1970.
9
Ronaldo
99 caps
One of Brazil’s top goalscorers of all time, Ronaldo painfully missed out on 100 caps for his country.
He initially ended on 98 caps in 2006 but made a comeback for a farewell appearance in 2011 at the age of 34. The two-time Ballon d’Or and World Cup winner scored 62 goals for Brazil, the last of which fittingly came at the World Cup.

8
Robinho
100 caps
Robinho is one of eight Brazilians to have made 100 or more appearances for Seleção, with his first cap coming in 2003 aged just 19.
The winger turned out for the likes of Santos, Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan during his club career and was a regular between 2005 and 2011, with his final appearance coming in 2017.
7
Claudio Taffarel
102 caps
The highest-capped goalkeeper in Brazil’s history, Claudio Taffarel made his international debut at the age of 22 in 1988. He would go on to become a regular for his country until 1998, making 10 or more appearances in five separate calendar years.
Currently a goalkeeping coach for his national side and for Liverpool, Taffarel won two Copa America titles and the World Cup in 1994.
6
Lucio
105 caps
Physical centre-back Lucio is next on the list, with the former Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Inter defender winning 105 caps.
After breaking through in 2001, Lucio went on to play every minute for Brazil during their 2002 World Cup triumph. He would become a crucial figure for Seleção and go on to captain his country, with his last appearance coming in 2011.
5
Thiago Silva
113 caps
Another centre-back who has captained Brazil is Thiago Silva. Considered by many as one of the best defenders in modern history, the 39-year-old is still yet to retire from international football.
Silva actually made his debut for Brazil at the age of 24, but quickly made up for lost time and won his 100th cap in 2021. The defender is yet to win a World Cup but did lift the Copa America in 2019.
4
Dani Alves
126 caps
Dani Alves won the first of his 126 caps in 2006, with the last coming in 2022 at the age of 39.
The former Sevilla and Barcelona right-back scored eight goals on the international stage and helped win two Copa America titles in 2007 and 2019.
3
Roberto Carlos
127 caps
Known as one of the best attacking left-backs of all time and for his powerful free-kick ability, Roberto Carlos is third on the list with 127 caps.
The Real Madrid icon played in three World Cups, winning the 2002 tournament, with his first appearance for Brazil coming in 1992 as a teenager. He went on to establish himself as a legend of the game and won his final cap for Brazil in 2006.
2
Neymar
128 caps
Neymar, Brazil’s top goalscorer of all time with 79 goals, currently sits second in the appearance list with 128 caps. He’ll no doubt have his eyes on breaking this record before he retires, with the attacker one of the most iconic names in Brazilian football.
After bursting onto the scene with Santos, Neymar was handed an international debut at 18 in 2010 and has been a key player ever since.
1
Cafu
143 caps
Currently top of the charts is Cafu, with the former right-back earning 143 caps for Brazil, the first of which came in 1990 at the age of 19.
He’d go on to captain his country and even made a whopping 20 appearances in 1997, the year he won his first Copa America. Cafu is also the only player in World Cup history to play in three World Cup finals, winning in 1994 and 2002.

Henry astonished by breadth of calendar
WHAT HAPPENED?
Henry insists that the footballing calendar is simply too packed, citing the example of Bellingham as evidence for his argument. The Real Madrid midfielder sustained a muscular injury in August and has been ruled out for a month. Last season, he played 49 games for club and country as England reached the Euro 2024 final after a packed club campaign.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
FIFA are already facing legal action over the sheer amount of fixtures that top clubs have to play. FIFPro, the players' union, has launched the suit in a bid to halt the expansion of the Club World Cup, which is set to feature 32 teams from 2025.
WHAT HENRY SAID
Per The Athletic, Henry, who works as a Champions League pundit for CBS Sports in the United States, said: “I think for us, for CBS, it is just outstanding, to be able to talk about more games. But there is a but for me, because I’m going to go on the side of being a coach. Too many games. Too many games. As an ex-player, I don’t know how those guys do it. As a pundit. I love it. But as an ex-player and as a coach, it’s too many games.
“Bellingham is already injured. It’s tough to play a season and then go to the Euros and come back and play for the national team. Games left and right and then a FIFA club tournament at the end of the season. So as much as I want to see AC Milan vs. Liverpool and I want to see a Manchester City vs Inter, I want to see the best players on the field being able to perform whenever they can. That’s also part of the product, having the best players on the field still being able to perform all the time. So yes, it is outstanding for us, but if I was a coach, I don’t know if I would have found out outstanding. There’s a lot of games.”

WHAT NEXT?
The international break is now over so club football will return this weekend. Next week, top clubs will also enter European competitons as the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League kick off.
Derby County will have been relieved that the final day in League One was very straightforward against Carlisle United in the end, confidently beating the Cumbrians 2-0 to seal second spot in the division and promotion back up to the Championship.
Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United would ultimately fall short behind the Rams in the hunt for that final coveted automatic promotion spot, with Max Bird and James Collins getting in on the goalscoring act to be the heroes on the day at Pride Park for Paul Warne's men.
The worry will be now, immediately after the ecstasy of winning promotion, that Derby will be raided for a number of their main stars with Bird already on his way to Bristol City in the summer.
Eiran Cashin will be the name that will be floated about as a main target for a number of clubs from the Rams, who will fend off any suitors coming their way unless a very attractive offer is put on the table.
Eiran Cashin's rise at Derby
Derby will have been proud already with their achievement to return to the Championship after a couple of seasons in the League One wilderness, but even more proud to have a number of homegrown talents in their ranks to help pull off the success story.
Alongside Cashin, Louie Sibley and Bird have risen through the ranks from playing in the youth set-up to being dependable first-team faces capable of getting Derby back to the promised land of the second-tier.
The 22-year-old centre-back has been top drawer the entire promotion-winning campaign for Warne's Rams, only missing two League One games the entire gruelling season and forming a tight-knit partnership with Sonny Bradley and Curtis Nelson at the back.
That trio combined have been formidable, barely putting a foot wrong when called into action, with the 37 goals leaked by Derby overall coming in as the division's meanest defence after all 46 games were up.
This promotion so early into his career resume will be even sweeter for the Irishman considering he was first cutting his teeth for Derby when the very future of the club looked up in the air, sticking by the Rams to then drink in this promotion success with the club back on the map after turbulent times had threatened the club's existence.

8. RW – Festy Ebosele
9. CAM – Jason Knight

Cashin would have to remain patient for first-team chances during his first full season playing in the men's team however, only given his first start during the 2021/22 term- which saw Derby fall to League One under Wayne Rooney's management – in February against fellow relegated side Peterborough.
Coming away from the game with a clean sheet and a first 90 minutes under his belt, the 22-year-old is now a very accomplished head on young shoulders with 122 Rams appearances amassed in total since this solid debut match at Pride Park.
Described as "outstanding" after coming away from that first real taste of Championship football unscathed by then Rams boss Rooney, there's no doubt that Warne will also wax lyrical in a similar vein to this when assessing how crucial the 22-year-old has been in Derby steadily going about their business in the third tier.
The concern will now be if they can keep a firm grip on Cashin, with Bird leaving Derbyshire now for Ashton Gate and also another transfer deal in the past saw fellow homegrown gem in Jason Knight leave for pastures new.
Derby County defender Eiran Cashin in action.
The highly praised defender could skip the second tier entirely for a move all the way up to either Brighton and Hove Albion or West Ham United according to previous rumours, with the Rams wanting a substantial offer to even think about giving up one of their major assets to any Premier League suitors.
Eiran Cashin's transfer value in 2024
Cashin's transfer value has been bumped up all the way to a hefty £1.5m according to Football Transfers now, which means he is worth double that of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing who has starred up top this season in his own right for Derby to help make the feat of promotion achievable.
The former Cardiff City attacker finished the campaign with an astounding 27 goal contributions in total for Warne's promotion-winning Rams, yet sees his value come in at a lesser £769k as a talent ten years older than Cashin.
This strike from the electric Derby number 11 against Cambridge United the match before the memorable home showdown with Carlisle all but sealed their return to the division above, with Warne putting together a combined side of experienced professionals with top talents for the future next to them expertly.
Derby have been expecting Cashin's exit for quite a while now, with the smart decision to gift the Irish defender a new contract in February done to stop talk surrounding the 22-year-old's future potentially distracting a promotion push.
This new deal will also mean the Rams aren't victim to a higher-up party bidding low for Cashin knowing that Warne's men will want to sell so they don't lose their star asset for nothing, with an offer far higher than the £1.7m valuation stated potentially being needed for the new Championship side to consider parting ways.
Cashin could well just want to continue growing and excelling in Derbyshire instead of clamouring for a major move away, looking at how Ipswich Town have traversed the step-up with swagger and wanting his Rams team to feel inspired in the process.
Warne will just want Derby to acclimatise to their new surroundings in a non-flashy manner initially, aiming to stay put in the division that once saw the club nearly get swallowed whole due to financial mismanagement.
The celebrations won't quite die down just yet, however, with everyone associated to Derby savouring the joy of a promotion success before considering what the immediate future looks like for Cashin and Co.
No one could've predicted the week that has taken place at Nottingham Forest, with a monumental array of situations unfolding at the club.
From throwing away a lead with 15 minutes to go against Chelsea, to all but securing Premier League survival, it's not been a dull week for the supporters.
However, the drama took a turn over the last couple of days, with owner Evangelos Marinakis claiming in an interview that he would like the Reds to move away from the City Ground in the years ahead – a ground that has been the club's home for 126 years.
Unsurprisingly, the decision hasn't gone down well with the supporters with many unhappy at the potential move from their iconic home to Toton, a suburb on the outskirts of the city – with the proposed land for the new ground closer to Derby County's Pride Park than Nottingham city centre.
No one can fault the owner's ambition to take the club forward, demonstrating intent that wasn't present under former owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi.
The Kuwaiti wanted to transform the club but failed miserably and offloaded many key first-team players to the dismay of the fanbase.
However, he did make the right call in selling one player, with one former Forest talent unable to replicate his good form at the City Ground following his move back in 2016.
Oliver Burke's stats at Nottingham Forest
Oliver Burke, a product of the Reds youth setup, made his debut for the club during the 2014/15 campaign, following a rapid rise through the Nigel Doughty academy.
His first start for the first team came in the 0-0 draw against Charlton Athletic during the opening months of the 2015/16 season, following a handful of substitute appearances in the campaign prior.

The Scotsman finished the season with two goals in 21 appearances, a respectable tally for a youngster in his breakthrough season in England's second tier.
However, it would be the 2016/17 campaign that caught the eye – finding the back of the net four times in the opening five matches of the season, leading to an offer too good to refuse.
German club RB Leipzig plumped £13m for the youngster before the closure of the window, an offer that owner Al-Hasawi accepted with Burke leaving the club to play in the Bundesliga.
However, after such a promising start to his professional career in the East Midlands, his form has evaporated, with the now 27-year-old struggling in the Championship this season.
Oliver Burke's market value in 2024
Nearly eight years on from his big-money move to Germany, the winger has failed to recapture any of his good form, failing to score or assist a single goal in the second tier for Birmingham City, with his last goal coming for Millwall back in May 2023.
As a result of his dismal form for the Blues, his value has plummeted, with the attacker now only valued at €2m (£1.7m), as per Transfermarkt – a drop of over £11m since his departure from Forest.
Although former owner Al-Hasawi annoyed a lot of supporters during his time at the club, he undoubtedly made a brilliant call in selling the youngster, with his deal helping the Reds avoid any further FFP issues after the previous problems in 2014.

The 27-year-old defender was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge throughout the summer but could not find a new home. THE BIGGER PICTURE
Maresca has, however, had a change of heart and Chilwell has been added to Chelsea’s 25-man Premier League squad for the current season. The Italian had previously indicated that Chilwell’s inclusion in matchday squads would be evaluated on a game-by-game basis, with tonight's Carabao Cup fixture against Barrow likely to see the full-back don the blue jersey again.
WHAT MARESCA SAID
Speaking ahead of the Barrow clash, Maresca said: "I think so (Chilwell will be involved). Hopefully, we can give him some minutes tomorrow. The idea for him was to leave. At the moment that he’s here, he’s one of the squad, he’s training. He will be in the squad tomorrow and hopefully, we can give him some minutes.”

Chillwell's last official appearance for Chelsea came during a brief two-minute cameo in their 1-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City back in April. However, he might not be the only player who could be brought back in from the cold as Maresca suggested that he will hand opportunities to several fringe players to make a case for themselves against Barrow.
“They are players that train every day very well but unfortunately I cannot give them chances,” he said.
“All the players that are not getting so many chances, tomorrow is a good chance for them to get minutes and to hopefully win a game.”

Angel City fined by NWSL, docked points
Two execs suspended for remainder of 2024
Club violated salary cap rules
WHAT HAPPENED?
NWSL side Angel City has been fined $200k and docked three-points in the league standings after an investigation found them to be in violation of salary cap rules.
The NWSL announced the sanctions on Thursday after determining that Angel City exceeded the salary cap by $50,000 for four weeks in 2024. The league also suspended Angel City president and CEO Julie Uhrman and GM Angela Hucles Mangano from “duties related to any player transactions” for the rest of the season.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The suspension hits hard for the Los Angeles-based club, who drop down to 12th in the standings. With just four matches to play, they're nine points out of a postseason spot.
The NWSL’s investigation found that Angel City had “side letters” with five players who signed in 2023 that weren’t disclosed to the league. Those deals increased the players’ compensation and benefits beyond the standard contracts with the league, exceeding the salary cap.
"The NWSL remains committed to maintaining fairness and transparency across all clubs, reinforcing the importance of adhering to established rules and upholding the competitive balance within the league," the league said in a statement.

In 2021, Angel City were fined $20,000 by the NWSL, and in addition, were handed a loss of $20,000 in allocation money for violating the NWSL's tampering policy regarding then-Gotham player Allie Long.

Liverpool will play their last game of football under Jurgen Klopp's leadership this afternoon, hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
Third in the standings, the Reds were in the thick of a thrilling three-horse title race this season before falling behind in April, though will take a small slice of solace from clinching the Carabao Cup and, more importantly, undergoing a resurgence after falling by the wayside last season.
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool beat Chelsea in the 2022 Carabao Cup final.
The clash against Wolves will not carry the weight of responsibility that has been carried throughout most of this relentless campaign; the occasion will transcend the need for three points, for closing down Arsenal and Manchester City.
Liverpool are nailed on for a third-place finish. So, roll up, roll up! Come and see Klopp's Liverpool have one last dance on the Anfield pitch, ending an exhilarating and unforgettable journey.
Liverpool team news
Thiago Alcantara could join his manager in making an emotional final appearance for the club after surviving a week of training. The Spaniard has featured for just five minutes this season and is out of contract in one month.
Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota are expected to return in some capacity after overcoming respective injuries, though Ben Doak and Joel Matip (who is also imminently out of contract) will play no part.
Harvey Elliott and Alexis Mac Allister might both be placed on the bench after their respective performances during the 3-3 draw at Aston Villa on Monday night. Elliott was notably impressive but there are a host of midfielders pushing for a start, namely Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones, with Stefan Bajcetic also waiting patiently in the wings
Cody Gakpo has started Liverpool's past three Premier League fixtures, scoring in his last two games, but Klopp might choose to unleash Darwin Nunez with one final flourish on Merseyside.
Why Klopp should start Darwin Nunez
You'd be right in thinking that Gakpo is the man in form, and thus, the 6 foot 1 "revelation" – as he has been called by pundit Jamie Carragher – is the man that deserves a comfy spot at the spearhead of Liverpool's attack, but a third-place finish has already been confirmed and Nunez is a figure in need of some respite following his recent struggles.
Liverpool's club-record £85m signing has scored 18 goals and added 13 assists this season but he has lost his footing in recent games and has seen supporters' frustrations finally boil over after two campaigns of wasteful finishing.

The Uruguayan has improved his potency in front of goal but there are still some questionable underlying numbers. That said, however, Nunez ranks among the top 12% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions and the top 15% for progressive carries per 90, as per FBref.
He's an immense talent but it needs to click sooner rather than later, with the 24-year-old – as the table shows – having missed 47 big chances across two campaigns, scoring just 20 times.
Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez
To look at this from a positive stance, Nunez has had 38 big chances from 35 games this season, highlighting his innate ability to find space and opportunity to golden positions.
But he needs to start taking them, and with Nunez about to head into the unknown of the post-Klopp era, his German manager must hand him one last starting berth today, having benched him for four of his past five league matches.

Chelsea continued their strong start to the Women's Super League season with a 2-1 win against Arsenal on Saturday – a result that sent them top of the table. Former Blues manager Hayes was at the Emirates to see Sonia Bompastor's side secure a deserved victory. Despite picking up the three points, England international Bright suggested her old boss would probably not have been entirely happy with the manner of the win.

WHAT MILLIE BRIGHT SAID
She told : "Yeah, probably sending me some grief actually! We always keep in touch, she's [Hayes] become a great friend over the years and she always will be."
The centre-back added: "We knew it was going to be a tough game. It's two top teams coming up to battle, it's never easy coming here. As a team we know we've got that fight, we're capable of dealing with that pressure and, in the end, still creating a couple of chances. We're disappointed not to put them in the back of the net a few more times but it's a game we expected to be tough."

Hayes led Chelsea to unprecedented success during her remarkable tenure with the club but now Bompastor is at the helm and the former is managing the United States women's national team.
